John,

We don't have any Lachenals with a number that high, they only seem to go up to around 201500.  More details and some photos please.

Gregor,

We would estimate 76924 as circa 1883.

Thank you, Wess. This is an impressive age! First I couldn't believe, then I opened it and upon seeing proper concertina reeds (until now I only owned hibrids), I believe it is really this old. The only thing which rises my eybrow are the buttons. They look very "plastic". Did in 19th century plastic even exist or is it a result of a later refurbishment?

Lachenal introduced casein (plastic) buttons about 1928 . But check the number elsewhere on the instrument, as the range goes up to just over 200,000 and a preceding '1'  on the end label can be hidden.

Those buttons look like bone to me.

I am thinking of parting with my near mint condition ME Edeophone 48B treble English.  Serial 56585?  Any idea of date of manufacture?

Was there a "golden Age' for Lachenals?  I'm trying to come up with a fair price. This one has the large reed pan hole which Wim Wakker told me to look for as they have the best reed scaling.  Wim also told me that he modeled his top end Parnassus after the large hole reed pans Edeo.

I don't think so.  In my experience most Edeophones are either very good or superb, even the late ones.  While more basic ECs and anglos made in the later years often have really dreadful reeds.  With Lachenals you really have to assess the individual instrument.

Hello, Many years ago I inherited a concertina from my grandparents (I am now 60).

I believe it to be a Lachenal Craine Duet Tutor.  It works perfectly and I think it may have been refurbished some time ago because It looks and sounds immaculate.  The serial number is 4194 and it has steel reeds.  Could anyone please help with dating and which would be the best platform to sell it on please?  I have attached some photo's to help.  Many thanks
