Gabrielle Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Hello, I have an English 48 button student Lachenal concertina with a serial number 38860. I would be very interested to know its approximate age. Thank you.
wes williams Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Hi Gabrielle, We'd estimate 38860 as circa 1900.

allan Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I have just acquired a Lachenal English concertina no 32281. It is a 48 button Tutor model (coloured and labelled buttons) with wooden ends and brass reeds. From what has gone before, I am assuming a date of mid 1890's, but rather confusingly there is the following written inside:- "To J Hutcher, South Africa. 5.3.03. Palmers Music Store, Kettering, England" Any more information would be appreciated.

Mike Acott Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Hello Wes, another 32 key metal ended Anglo serial no 153896 being restored. Regards. Mike
Mike Acott Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Hello Wes, I have just looked on the LH end box and the owners name was John Reid from Skipton with the date of July 1900 price £5 5s
wes williams Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Thanks Mike, That shows that our estimates are fairly near in this region. The instrument could have been purchased from a dealer in the local area, and might have been sold to the owner a bit later than our estimate. But the details will be added to our database and taken into consideration next time we update our estimates.
Daniel Hersh Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Is this a very early Lachenal Anglo-German? Number is 3156. Currently on eBay at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134343919281 .
Takayuki YAGI Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) I once saw 1428, 5042, 5131 and 7435 on eBay and Barleycorn. All of them had numbered keys and simpler fretwork. And 109854 and 148802 with (slightly different) Butler label. As you think, I too think that on eBay is early Lachenal. Edited November 28, 2022 by Takayuki YAGI typo
