  1. This has been going the rounds for the last 7 or 8 years. The numpty who was trying to "sell" it offered to do a swap for 3 x 3 row anglos. Silly fellow. It is a very pretty box but not worth a third of this figure
  2. Why not find someone with either a Pantogaph Engraving Machine or a small C N C. It is obvious from repairing 'Tinas that the Pantograph was used. If you are struggling with the Inlay's then there are electro-formers around Birmingham or I can suggest an Engraving Company In Leicester to do them. and the pockets for the inlays
  3. It has gone to the silent graveyard, never to be played again. It will probably end up in an American Museum along with many others
  4. WHOOPS. Retract that comment as it looks like a very early one. Is it really number 58?
  5. No I reckon it is the "Cack Handed Repairer Syndrome" Didn't know how to put it back together
  6. Phone me you daft Wassock and I will send you some springs and pads Good Luck with the Gig Old Nic
  7. Just what else could we all do.. I am really frustrated that Ebay took no notice whatsoever, I contacted them on 5 occasions regarding this scam . ZILCH.If we try to sell anything that is slightly suspect then they are down on us like a ton of sh one t, but then we only have over 50,000 positive feed backs.
  8. No Mike, he has got a grant from a fund set up by Dyson. This is quite different.I probably see at least 2 or 3 graduate projects every month and I am struggling to remember one that has got off the starting blocks. Or at least got as far as a second production run
  9. This is just some silly student project. The chances of it getting off the ground are probably zilch. There are plenty of REAL machines on the market that will work well and produce good results. The old adage of "Don't send a boy on a mans errand" comes to mind. C N C is a great way forward on Concertina production as it removes the tedious drudgery of repitition work. I am not averse to making the odd Concertina End on one of our C N C Machining Centres. Quite spectacular to see a 4500 kg machine with a 60 thou cutter in the holder, and great to come in in the morning to find that you have a new pair of ends that have been made whilst you were asleep. This is with all the holes and fretwork ,and a perfect finish.
  10. THIS IS A PHOTO TAKEN ON MY DINING TABLE LAST YEAR. THIS WAS SOLD TO A MAN IN CANADA. THE DESCRIPTION IS MINE. THIS WAS MOST CERTAINLY A ONE OFF TWIN REEDED CONCERTINA.AVOID DO NOT BID I HAVE ALERTED EBAY NIC
  11. You could try using some Acetal rod, turns well has good mechanical properties, good wear properties and gives a good finish. It would help to leave a small radius at the pin /button junction. If you can't find it p m me
  12. Bill , whatever you do,do not try to sing against a double reeded Tina,Aural Ouch!!
  13. Malcolm This looks a lot like the one that I let Chris photograph for his paper on Rock Chidley. Have a look. Although the photos of this Tina are a little fuzzy I think that it might just be She Oak as Chidley was at some point in his career a Timber Merchant
  14. You should have been in Saddleworth at the weekend.Lots of very young and very fit Dancers.Morris is alive and wellThere were also quite a lot of old and fit dancers. The musicians were pretty good as well
  15. Find your local Indian fabric shop ,they have a wide range of nets that are perfect and cost next to nothing.By Indian I mean Asian not the American variety.
  16. David always makes a lovely job of his restorations, his is the standard we should all seek to emulate.
  17. Hamish is a very interesting bloke, but more importantly he is an awesome player. I had the good fortune to hear him when he came to collect my Tina for its 20 year service I was dreading the prospect of playing for the Arch-angel Hamish as my fingers do not do justice to this magic machine. He sat and played in the kitchen for about an hour, stunning Orkney tunes the like of which I had never heard. A truly wonderful moment. It would be well worth the trip to the Orkneys, but contact him first as he is a keen sailor.
  18. I have thought long and hard about the damper problem and my solution is to injection mould some washers in Santoprene with a Shore hardness of about 65. It will be possible to design them to have a slight grip on the hole so that they will hold on to the spindle of the button. Santoprene has exceptional chemical and U V resistance properties. I will let you know when we have samples available.
  19. You could try LINCOLNSHIRE WOODCRAFTS GRANTHAM Nice people with good stocks of a very wide range of timbers including African Blackwood, like Ebony but easier to glue and Indian Roseweood
  20. I will repeat but not, repeat NOT recomend a solution to leaks. I was offered a lovely Duet and the owner boasted that he had "Cured the leaks" with what was my retort "Oh Araldite " he replied "I glued it all together"
  21. Here is a little tip for holding the Chamois. Fix some 120 0r 160 grit wet and dry on the under side of your straight edge with double sided tape. This will hold the Chamois whilst you are cutting it. We sell Rotary Cutters and manufacture Wall Paper Cutters.www.proopsbrothers.com. P S Grit side down of course
  22. Keith Talk to Harriet Havers. If you want her number phone me.
  23. Oh the Bar Stewards most certainly do.I ain't met a straight one yet
  24. Well folks, I suggested this route to Hamish Bayne well over 24 years ago and he was I think the very first to espouse this method . Just have a look at the Buy and Sell feature "Holmwood For Sale" This is probably the most beautiful Concertina that I have ever seen. Trouble is there are many who are verging on Luddism and resent the lack of "Hand Crafted " parts
