There are photos in the first post of this thread. We think the labels were renewed as part of the refurb and may not be the original ones. hello, I have a Lachenal anglo german concertina C/G 20 keys, manifactured by Lachenal especially for J.G. Murdoch serial number is 133330, I would know if it is possible to date che instrument and also have an idea of its value, because mine has been badly restored and wondering whether it is worth the expenses of a restoration Thanks for your work on dating Lachenals. A photograph would help in answering your question about the value because there were several different models of 20-key, with brass reeds or steel reeds, and mahogany or rosewood ends, but prices are relatively low for them all because everybody wants the 30-key ones. Grazie mille! also for quickness. My main problem is to find an italian reliable concertina repairer, because it seems there are none. Brunne/Stagi is out of business, and the Castelfidardo industries are not interested in concertinas
John Wild
I have been asked for help in dating a concertina inherited from grandparents. Naturally, I thought of this forum topic as my first port of call. It is a Lachenal 48-button English concertina, serial number 50279. Scrolling throught his topic, I have found No.44289 c.1905, and 52593 c.1911. Assuming an even rate of production, I would calculate this one would date from 1908-09. Is it possible to be more precise? I have not (yet) seen the instrument or photos. Thank you, John Wild.
wes williams
Dowright would have dated this as c.1909 in his latest estimates. Edited August 30, 2021 by wes williams Changed date - I'd read the wrong column again!

Bill Crossland
From Dowright's previously quoted figures, this would date to around 1877

Kristjan
Hi, I have a Louis Lachenal Concertina here. Could someone please give me an idea on it’s age and perhaps even an approx value? https://photos.app.goo.gl/6hSWA2e5ENsceXKH6 https://photos.app.goo.gl/hC21Mw7bhTZ2sDgbA https://photos.app.goo.gl/88aSP9jzngbd4Cfg7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/PWhKSYjugXTBbTQ96 https://photos.app.goo.gl/x8ACifbpwbsn5zFR9 Thanks so much in advance, Kind Regards, Kristjan
wes williams
Hi Kristjan Your photos show a 48 key Rosewood ended English system with a Louis Lachenal label and serial number 8169. The bone buttons are coloured black for the outer accidental rows, with the C buttons in red and with the note names stamped on the inner rows. It appears to have a wooden sub-fret baffle. Dowright would have estimated this as circa 1861. Giving a value is always difficult as we don't know how much work would be required to get it back to playing condition, but with this age I'd suggest it would probably need a full retune at minimum.
