  1. Would it not have been better to get your inserts the correct size for the slot drill?. A slot head screw would look better "You can tell a craftsman by his skill in fitting the brassware " is an old adage
  2. Little John, look at your messages
  3. What a nice change from some Concertina dealers that I would like to name
  4. Why not stick with U N C or U N F , buy some brass screws , make the heads and solder the screws into them. Much easier and taps are readily available
  5. Buy Dave Elliotts book and learn the basic skills. It is not Brain Surgery if a little daunting to begin with. You will learn very quickly , get some decent tools and you wil lfind the whole process very rewarding, Good Luck
  6. This is why I pointed Dave Leese to our local Hardware shop that had just bought the residual stock of a Screw Distributor. This is where the old stock came from. No 1 and No 2 screws were what was known as a "Non-preferred size " by G K N from the Sixties
  7. Whoops I should have said 1000 x 200 and not 300 x 200
  8. The Bridgeport has the same Quill travel as a Fobco , but then there is the vertical on the Knee. It would be possible to buy a Milling Table for a Pillar Drill , that is an X and Y travel table for around 100 Euros. The old adage " Don't send a boy on a mans errand " applies here You get what you pay for There are many Chinese copies of a Turret Mill most are quite O K. We have one with a 1200 mm by 300 mm travel and it has been in daily use for 14 years and a 300 traverse by 200 that is over 20 years old and has not put a foot wrong. Both are in our Tool Room
  9. Fobco is the one < they often appear on E bay. The bearings are cheap to buy and very easy to change. We have 2 in the Factory over 35 years old and they are in daily use. You could get a cheap Bridgeport for sensible money and that will do anything that you ask of it ,except make the coffee. It has an excellent speed range and is good for sensitive drilling, down to point 3 mm with a steady hand
  10. Well I have, For my 70 th Birthday a 56 key Holmwood Cake appeared problem is it did not last very long. There is a picture somewhere on C net
  11. MELODIANS When have we allowed musical perverts on here? Only joking though. Sidmouth is in my opinion a very expensive week away no matter how good it may be
  12. They are only difficult to obtain if you can't find them. I pointed Dave Leese to 1500 1 " no "'2s and 1000 1 1/4 no 2's. So why not try Concertina Spares. Paul Hardy I would advise you not to use Brass as they will snap at the slightest provocation
  13. Whoops ! Wrist slapped Greg, fancy me getting it wrong.
  14. Scates ? With square ended reds ?
  15. What is known about this other than the info on Wikipedia. Invented in 1828 it sounds intriguing
  16. So pleased that you have taken our collective advice, I am sure that you will not regret it. Hope that you or your Partner learns to play.
  17. Talk to David Robertson in Norwich. DO NOT MESS with this yourself, It is worth north of £5000. when restored ( with good fortune)
  18. Why not use Amboyna veneer instead of trying to fake it, it is readily available. Sadly Milliput do not make Amboyna Putty.
  19. It is a fairly thankless task to restore the bellows on a cheapo Lach, however you will learn a great deal Get the leather from "David Leese" and a scalpel some decent P V A and a large jar of patience and then get going. If it is a good quality Lach such as an Edeophone then it is a very different matter. I would recommend very strongly that you buy a copy of the Concertina Repair Bible from Dave Elliott
  20. Mikefule hits the nail on the head. Buy the best Concertina you can't quite afford. That way you will have fewer regrets. I spent twenty years trying to play a Duet that had been tuned to New pitch on one end and Old pitch on the other, but it was only £17.
  21. Do not forget folks that Milliput has a finite shelf life, depending on conditions, between one and two years. We ,Proops Brothers sell loads so our stock is rotated quickly. One pack is £7.50 whilst Two packs is £8.00 including P and P ( its the postage that makes it expensive)
  22. Timber cut "On the quarter" as against "Through and Through" has far less liability to warp. Most of the Chidleys that I own have the reed pans cut on the quarter, but then Rock Chidley was a Timber Merchant at some stage
  23. Have you considered the Accusound that is made in Sheffield ? It was developed by Griff Jones(He who ran the campaign to save Cecil Sharpe House)
  24. David, Emms Enns and Thins Rule O K. O K ?
