  1. I really do despair sometimes. Do you think that I would go to all the trouble of having buttons made without doing the research? Please dont let us degenerate into a Mudcat style site with a load of Yah Boo! replies. There is more commonality than you may realise, if they dont fit then send them back, or if you would like a sample ask. Perhaps they would be better if the next batch were listed at £2.95 each after all Bull.... baffles brains I am clearing my workshop post divorce, need I say more.
  2. Well do you really want mucky fingers every time you play You would need to anodize them and this has a poor resistance to wear These are made from brass and plated The additional weight gain would be around 120 gr overall
  3. We (Proops Bros) sell a Piercing Saw frame and a pack of 72 assorted blades for £10 .80 plus £3.95 post and packing. Sorry for the commercial . I alwayas find it helps to angle the new piece as you get a better joint and a better visual fit Proops can be found at WWW.Proopsbrothers.com or if you prefer 0116 2403400
  4. Beware there are only day tickets left All concerts are sold out.
  5. What I was saying, quite politely, was that you seem to have the calculation a bit wrong. Delrin would weigh in at 22g whilst brass would be 170g pe set of 56 Regards Old Nic
  6. Based on a 56 key English the following weights apply:- Lachenal Edeophone 1.350Kg Holmwood Rosewood 1.795 Kg Wheatstone Metal ended 1.845 Kg Delrin buttons would weigh in at 22g Brass CZ 101 nickel plated 170 g both for a set of 56 Which looks as if the brass would add a mere 150g to the overall weight of the Tina I guess that this sort of lays the myth that Holmwoods are heavy, to rest!
  7. We still have the tooling for a version of John Bull Printing Sets in our Tool racks but it is not a Bodoni derivative from memory but I will get it out when I have time as it would be O K for Lachenal Labels Sorry about the last post but its a bit like playing the Tina sometimes you press the wrong button!
  8. Just an idea but the work that has been done on the ledgers is formidable and to say the least impresive. The thought has occured to me that it would be possible to create images of the existing concertinas and cross relate them to the numerical version of the ledgers. The need for anonimity may be a consideration. I suppose most of us have Digital cameras and it should be possible to creat a web site that we could download the pics to and even those of concertinas that we had "spotted". It could be a sort of Tinapedia. Why stop at the wheatstones include all the other makers as well I thought that I would float it as an idea. What do we think?
  9. Try Midi scan, it does anything that you ask but not make tea.
  10. Thank you everybody for your help and advice. In the end I looked at AC Normans website and gave them a call. They say they can do the work at a reasonable price and in a timescale which isnt too bad. David
  11. You could try P B E in the U K Contact FOZIA Phone 01753 536536 Fax 01753 876444 Dont forget the time difference and adthe international diallling code As Fozia says we hav not sold it for years and years but we do still have some stock but it aint cheap Hope that this he;ps On the cost of blocking dies thy cost around £125 for a bellows or strap die in brass or aluminium .
  12. There is a fair chance that it may fly subject to certain provisos 1) That the facility be sited adjacent to the Gloucester Old Spot Airport, alongside the Feline Disposal Unit fully equiped with Boxing Glove and Cream Whipping equipment. 2) That you are quite happy to squander valuable Tina playing time on such futile activity. It is quite good to have a little fun occasionally I just hope that a certain D..K T.....R is not reading this and gets the wwrong end of the stick Talking of sticks a certain Festival Organiser was telling me that he had arranged some IRISH sessions for the Morris Musicians. He didnt seem to understand the problem.
  13. Well lets try aagain! Gold Blocking is more witch craft than skill, more black magic than art. At its basic it is easy .A simple machine ,hand operated, canbe had for a couple of hundred pounds, the dies preferably of hard brass although zincos are ok for short runs and good tooling grade aluminium is fine, we have done over 100,000 prints with ally dies and they are still good . The die is heated to around150C and pressure appplied. Hey presto youve got a print. If you want some done get David Leese to do it as he has a range of Classic Tina designs for bellows and Thumb straps( Yes it is high time I sorted the Hand Strap Dies out) I hope that this helps, contact me if you need any more help.
  14. Le Prevos embossing tools are not designed for the sort of tooling concertinas have. This is a better place to look for the tools... http://www.hewit.com/ The price for a bellows sized pallet would be several hundred pounds. If you want instruction look for book binders restoration courses. Chris
  15. Surely Old Ironsides would not have allowed such instruments of jollity, but then if it had steel reeds it might have made a difference
  16. Would you like to give a little shove? You know that you want it. You dont need a note from your mother. Old Nic
  17. Being an old Luddite(me that is ) would it not have been much quicker and easier to buy a compound table for about £100 or $200? The verniers wont stand up to this sort of application whilst the D R O dust proof scales will.Nice concept though. It is quite possible to buy C N C machines for quite good prices on the second hand market that would do this job with great ease and accuracy and the programming is not that daunting and good fun. It would be easy to do the fretwork with a single lip cutter or as I have done using a Dental Burr in a machine with a 10hp motor and a speed range up to 6000 rpm Then there is the use of a pantograph engraving machine that would not only cope with the reed pan but the fret work as well.Copies are cut in 020 acetate sheet at 2:1 ratio and then used to cut an acrylic master as a more permanent fixture. Great idea though
  18. "Joinery" Dave? Come come, its more akin to cabinet making than joinery.
  19. Why bother with all the hassle when you can buy an absolutely superb Midi from Dean Onyon in Loughborough Leicestershire It works well it looks good and By jove it plays well
  20. :rolleyes Might this not just possibly be palisander? I remain yours A McIvelly
  21. Go for it there isnt much wrong with this one as long as the reeds are not in Aluminium shoes Andrew Norman has just dome one for a friend that started of in a much worse state. It sufffered from the rolling Edeophone syndrome or who pressed the self destruct button? I suspect that there will be a bit of a queue. Do my eyes decieve me or might it be a tenor?
  22. This is a really great tune,Ive been playing it on English for about 10 years and it has given me a lot of satisfaction.I'm pleased that I got the key right, not bad for a listener. Well done Stuart for doing the deed and bringing it out of the closet. Now we've got the dots we might get the rest of our Sqeezing Group to play it
  23. A little surprised at this, Stephen. I have seen very few late Wheatstones in Australia other than those with a South African connection or purchased in recent years from UK dealers or eBay. In fact, I can't think of any! Now, if we could get hold of their (G D & M) sales ledgers.... MC
