  1. Superb posting. A jammer is something I've wanted since I first detected these infernal devices (when they were still called 'poser phones'). Ian

    ice waltz

That is a lovely tune, well played. Huzzah! Ian
  3. I heard they were going to make another Carry On film but it's too much to think this might be the subject matter. Ian
  4. The Brain tune is absolutely lovely. Ian
  5. I'm erm....tempted to take up the melodeon...is this an early sign of accordion-playing? It's a slippery slope LDT... Ian
  6. Talking of Michael Moorcock (I read them all years ago): I wonder if Hawkwind want a concertina player? Ian
  7. I'm in the same boat as Dirge, and I haven't had withdrawal symptoms either. One doesn't like to be unkind about melodeons but... Ian
  8. I get a message 'Listing not available'. That is good news perhaps? Ian
  9. My wife and I went to see Spiers and Boden at the South Bank (of the Great River in London) last night. I had seen them several times before but never with Mr Spier's lovely concertina so much in use. They are very entertaining and quite brilliant and I recomend their various releases to anyone; although I'm not a great fan of Bellowhead. Ian
  10. There are usually a few concertina players at this session and no-one minds if you turn up and listen. Borough Session Ian
  11. Thanks but I am not sure what went wrong and don't know how to repair them. I think Rod has answered the question and summed up previous threads really. A search on 'Bellows Care' should turn up other threads. Ian

  13. Are we heading for a face-off between P-Celts and Q-Celts? Ian
  14. I can think of worse friends to have. Ian
  15. Thanks Fergus. That is a really useful bit of kit for me. Ian
  16. You're a cruel man David. (But I had to laugh.) Ian
  17. Is that where the expression comes from I wonder? Ian
  18. Never too late, Ian, on the assumption that I will be around for a year or two, yet. Now there's an idea for a workshop ........ Anglo for English concertina players. Regards, Peter. That's kind of you Peter to call me a player but I have a way to go yet before I would style myself thus. Ian
  19. Thank you to those who have responded to this topic and/or filled in the survey. Yes, but I don't own an anglo. Thinks.... Perhaps I should go out and buy one. Chris Very good idea, Chris. Had I known that I could have the assistance of you Peter, and had I had much more dosh, then perhaps I might have gone down the Anglo route too. However, I have my hands full now; although I'm beginning to see a slight glimmer at the end of a very long tunnel... Ian
  20. That is yet another fantastic source Ed and thanks for it. I'm beginning to see why people rate this forum who don't even play concertina but know folk music and forums. Ian
  21. '40s If it was a 3-voice (= 3 sets of reeds) it would have no couplers, if it has 2 couplers (switches on the grille) it must be a 4-voice, which is pretty rare for one of those older dark grey boxes. The way the bass handstrap is attached internally is uncommon too, normally they are held by screws on the outside. Am I right in assuming that the more rare and unusual items the better because it makes it easier to identify if and when it is fenced? Ian
  22. Strangely, I don't find this in a dictionary. To me it means somewhat odd or eccentric but not in a negative way. Ian
