Chris Timson
Hi all, I'm a bit out of touch on prices nowadays. I have a 40 (yes, 40) button rosewood ended Lachenal C/G anglo. It's in good condition and the action is unusually slick for a Lachenal rosewood. I'm selling it to a friend and I want to ask a price that is fair to both of us. Anybody know what would be a fair price for such a box in England (not Ireland ) TIA Chris

Theo
So much depends on it's playing quality. You could try asking Chris A what he would offer you for it.
Chris Drinkwater
As Theo says, "So much depends on its playing quality." But as a rough guide, I seem to recall that a few years ago, maybe 4 or 5, when someone I knew was interested in purchasing an anglo, from some research I did, that basic Lachenal 30 key rosewood Anglos were selling from £1800 upwards, depending on quality and the better rosewood Lachenals, especially those with more buttons, would cost you somewhere between £2000 - £3000. I expect prices have risen a bit since then. I wonder if any of the music shops (Button Box, Hobgoblin, etc) have anything similar for sale at the moment, you could use as a price guide? Graham Collicutt
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=concertina&LH_PrefLoc=2&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 A search on UK ebay of completed sales sorted highest first, those in green are sales. It seems to me prices have dropped £500-1000.
Wolf Molkentin
It seems to me prices have dropped £500-1000 ...which would be in accordance with general observations on the concertina market as repeatedly discussed here.
Chris Timson
It seems to me prices have dropped £500-1000. My feeling also. Thanks all. Chris
Paul Read
Chris, if it's the one you bought from me, it is a particularly nice one. I would have thought 2,000 pounds in the current market.
Chris Timson
That's the figure I came up with in the end. Yes it is a particularly nice one. I'm letting it go to a good friend for a little less than that because I want him to have it. Cheers, Chris
