Greg Jowaisas
A friend or two was wondering if I'd be posting a holiday concertina sale this year. This year has been filled with some family health challenges and I feel like I am just getting close to catching up on repairs and cases. (Well, the once patient villagers awaiting cases are weilding pitchforks and torches outside my workshop castle gates but I have hopes of placating them by the first week of the New Year.) So I've decided to do a holiday offering of concertinas for sale that are near completion and which I can put the finishing touches on while doing cases and finishing the last of repairs from last year. I thought I'd do the 12 Days of Christmas in reverse (a solstice countdown if you prefer)and post an additional concertina each day for the next 12 days. Additional pics and details available at your request. PM me or email: gjowaisas(type @)insightbb.com Joseph Scates Rivet action Very nice brass reeds Smooth player with a nice sound $1200. + shipping The holiday pyramid looks like this: Everyday I'll try and add details of another concertina. Many thanks to Paul and Ken. Donations from any sales will be made. Happy Holidays! Greg Edited December 25, 2012 by Greg Jowaisas
cboody
Hey! I haven't even bought the pitchfork or torch yet! I have been practicing the bad German accent al la Young Frankenstein though. I do hope that things are beginning to be a bit more on an even keel for you. Cases can wait when family health issues call. At least mine can! Be well, and enjoy the holidays with all of yours.... To be honest, time and cash flow management have always been challenges for me. There is probably a dose of attention deficeit order to throw in along with good intentions to not disappoint anyone who feels they need immediate attention. The good news is that after a year of intensive treatment for breast cancer my wife is reclaiming her life and regaining her vitality. It's a joy to watch her energy return and no present could be as precious as getting to spend quality time with her. (Which is another good reason to finish catching up on cases and repairs in order to get out of the workshop a bit more often ) Greg Here is holiday offering # 2: 24b mahogany C/G Lachenal good player with a strong sound. $850. + shipping 24b accidentals are: LH C row Bb/G# and a G row G/A. RH C row eb/c# and a G row g/a (octave above LH)

(Ralphie's mother in "Christmas Story") I cut out your custom pieces for the "ultra-lite" months ago. I'll start gluing them together next week. Thanks for your patience. Concertinas are an important part of our lives but its good to remember they are not the most important part! Here is another holiday offering:You may have seen this one before. 34b C/G Jones with broad steel reeds and 6-fold bellows. A few of the bellows papers were damaged and have been retouched. I replaced a piece of fretwork on the RH side. There are two drones on the LH thumb button: C in and out and D in and out. It has that warm Jones sound and is a decent player especially if you don't push the volume. It is also a bit larger than a similar Lachenal at 6&5/8 inches across the flats. Due to the size and volume factors I have not been recommending this concertina as an Irish session instrument. However, it is plenty fast enough for Irish Trad but better played solo or in a small group setting. $2000. + shipping Greg The 34b Jones has been reserved for perusal. Greg Jowaisas
Today's offering is a 64b Wheatstone tenor/extended treble. Serial # 31547 model 19A made in 1927. This is quite a nice concertina with good reeds and great dynamics. It will play softly but has the power and cut to stand up and be heard in a session. Presently in high pitch. I can carefully tune it to standard for you. $5000 + shipping. Edited December 17, 2012 by Greg Jowaisas
Greg Jowaisas
Stephen Knoll had sent me his Edeophone to lighten up the action and to check the tuning. Stephen now has it on consignment with me for a price of $3300 + shipping. It is a nice example of a metal end Edeophone with a strong sound more than capable of holding its own in a session. The pyramid is topping out with 3 days to go. Edited December 21, 2012 by Greg Jowaisas
ceemonster
is the big metal puppy in the center bottom row part of the sale, or is it there for structural engineering purposes? i'm looking for a loud, bright baritone or tenor, and probly will end up going hybrid given their scarcity, but just wanted to cover every, um, base, here, get it? you know, leave no pyramid keystone unturned?..... Reed Bellows
Stephen Knoll had sent me his Edeophone to lighten up the action and to check the tuning. Stephen now has it on consignment with me for a price of $3300 + shipping. It is a nice example of a metal end Edeophone with a strong sound more than capable of holding its own in a session. I had the pleasure of playing this instrument at the 2012 Old Pal Festival in March. It is a very very nice instrument, and the only thing keeping me from it is my personal indigence. Whoever purchases this Edeophone will have a wonderful instrument in their hands.
Wolf Molkentin
Lachenal "Excelsior" extended treble Good player Steel reeds with a unique, very "Stately" sound. Bought from Chris Algar in 2003. The ebony ends show some warping and rolling which is stable and does not affect play. It does, however, reduce the price: $1100. + shipping Funny, that bunch of "Excelsiors" showing up for the time being. I had almost been thinking I owed some sort of rarity... I find the sound of mine unique as well; "stately" seems to fit (and I might adopt it)... Will be a bargain for someone, I guess. I wish you all the best with this year's pyramid and, more important, your family!

I wish you all the best with this year's pyramid and, more important, your family! Thank you. I like the line, "Family is all we have, and sometimes it's too much!" There are lots of joyous and sober reasons to celebrate the ones we love at this time of year and and between holidays as well. I would call Excelsiors uncommon. Today's addition to the pyramid is a 26b Ab/Eb Jeffries that I fixed up several years ago. It has a new, Jowaisas 6-fold with gold stamping (these usually came with 5-folds) It plays with that characteristic Jeffries sound and response (albeit mellowed by the wood ends) $3500 + shipping (which doesn't really cover my purchase price and work I must have bought it before the 2008 crash! ) Edited December 18, 2012 by Greg Jowaisas
