  1. I don't think it's possible on this board, just edit the duplicate and post a witty quip about how crap you are with computers 'n' stuff. Gets 'em every time.
  2. All round good playing Dick, love the hammered dulcimer playing too. You may even get me into playing mine, with that thought in mind I've applied to join the forum. Before too long I'll be living on forums!
  3. Here's an abc file that's quite close to the tune in the clip. 4. Allan, the link doesn't work - not for me anyway.
  5. I'm not an anglo player so it's difficult for me to comment on the Rochelle but I've had a Jackie and still have a Jack and for me they cannot be beaten in the price range. Light riveted action, larger reeds a bit slow to respond but given the price range I'd say they are the best starter/intermediate instruments available. You pays your money and you takes your chance but I'm betting that you won't be disappointed with a Rochelle vs. a Hohner; in fact I would expect it to be 'no contest'! My opinion for what it's worth. Pete.
  6. Excellent as always. I suppose I'll have to go off and hunt for the abc for this one now!
  7. Cheapskate. If you promise to reimburse me in case I win the auction, I'll stick a 50p bid on it on your behalf.
  8. It's here on ebay. Looks very good indeed.
  9. For what it's worth 'KerryF' has commented on several UK ebay instruments for sale, always enthusiastic and always claiming to be a repairer and restorer of concertinas whilst exhibiting an extremely shallow, inaccurate and often misleading 'knowledge' of the worth, lineage and provenance of the concertina in question. I'd suspect a scam but I can't figure out how it works unless the sellers are managing to re-register from a different IP and if so why have some of them posted my replies which shot down 'KerryF's' ridiculous comments? It's an opinion Jim, but I'm not sure it gets anyone anywhere.
  10. I came across this tune on another forum, nobody there seems to know what is. Any ideas? an abc would be good too.
  11. Here we go again but this time it's a Lachenal. There should be a law against hanging a concertina up by it's strap!
  12. I remember Mike Stand, always falling over at the wrong moment.
  13. I see the pictures are still up there. 'Tis a loverly old thing and I wish you joy of it. Eight folds and al fresco - now there's daring!
  14. Goodness knows! Spiers and Boden manage to drag it out for four and a half minutes! Anyway I've rewritten the abc and even changed the ending part to bring it to a more satisfactory conclusion. Do feel free to re-write the abc as you see fit and I'd be interested to see how you mix up the parts and repeats. I wanted to write 'rall' under the last two bars but I can't figure out how to do that. 15. Hi Lester, I've temporarily removed the abc while I sort it out. the bars in question should have started with a dotted quaver instead of a crotchet but I'm out for the afternoon now so can't fix it straight away. Pete
  16. I'm sure if you send David an email enquiry he'd be able to make a set of green bellows but here are a few more links to repairers/restorers that may be useful to you. Dave Elliott Marcus Music Andrew Norman Concertina Connection Barleycorn Concertinas
  17. Check out the David Leese website. If you're not sure about anything give him a call, you'll find him very helpful. Pete.
  18. I done a re-vamp of the abc file so it's a bit more like the Spiers and Boden version. I had to rewrite the abc file originally posted here due to errors , please see posts later in the thread.
  19. Difficult to quantify is that one. I think it pretty much depends on how your mind works and any preconceptions you may have before picking up your first concertina. If you like logical order in your life (and music) then the English keyboard layout initially fits the bill; if you're an intuitive 'play by ear' musician then I believe the anglo is more 'approachable'. That said there's no such thing as a musical instrument that's easy to play well, each instrument will present you with barriers and challenges unique to itself; it's how you cope with those obstacles that defines the instrument that's for you. Pete. (An EC player who's currently being severely challenged by the diatonic accordion - an instrument that's charmingly called a melodeon in the UK, makes it sound sweet and approachable but it's a bit of devil on the sly!)
  20. Aw, fer goodness sake PM me your address and I'll post you a proper spring. I'm in the UK mind, might take a few days to get there. Left or right hand? On second thoughts I'll send you both it's easier! Pete.
  21. Yep, right up my street this, I'll think I'll have to buy one or two CDs. Interesting that they've worked with Craig, Morgan, Robson too, they are well worth investigating if this is your kind of music.
  22. The current price of a Jack/Jackie from the Music Room is £269.99 so the Jack on offer seems reasonably priced to me, particularly in light of the fact that several Jackies (including older model 1 types) have changed hands on ebay in recent months for over £150.
  23. Copy and paste the abc into notepad and save it as a .txt file, you can copy and paste the contents into the Tune-O-Tron whenver you like. I keep all of my files in a folder aptly named ABC on my desktop, this has sub folders for specific types of music. Pete.
  24. I play English concertina, fully chromatic in any key. Bring it on big boy! (Edited to add) I should add that beyond three sharps and four flats I start to get a bit lost but hey, I'm only human!
