  1. As your T-shirt is showing as a mirror image, is it a correct assumption that what we see as your left and right hands are the opposite?
  2. I have come across another reference by HG Wells. In his story "Boon", in chapter 10, The character enters a dingy shop, finds this: "And above it hung concertinas and melodeons and cornets and tin whistles and mouth organs and all that rubbish of musical instruments which delight the hearts of the poor."
  3. Thanks. I thought I was posting a link to the specific photo but you got the set.
  4. I think you need to check if the extra notes are extended up at the higher end of the range, or down at the lower end. The later would be a tenor-treble - more useful ( I think) but also heavier.

Those you would meet there can give "hands on " advice on choosing and buying a concertina. Reputable dealer Barleycorn concertinas would have been represented at that weekend. You can check their website at barleycorn@concertina.co.uk, or phone 01270 879958

  8. And if you play a tune in C, then move all your fingers one step along each row, you will be playing the same tune in G, EXCEPT for one note - the F natural needs to be replaced by the F#, by moving the finger for that note to the adjacent button in the outer row. You can repeat the process to transpose from G to D.

  10. there are various approaches to to that question. I am not an Anglo player. I would suggest, as you seem to have found for yourself with the Mary MacNamara image , that you find examples from the best players of YOUR instrument in YOUR preferred style. Find, and go to, workshops where such players are tutors, probably as part of the program in various festivals.
  11. The Northumbrian Pipers' yellow Pocket book has a tune called Napoleon crossing the Cheviots. hoewever, I am sure I have heard it from somewhere else with a different title, possibly a song.
  12. The word you name as "voiced" has a long upward stroke for the 3rd letter, which a dotted i would not. It may be a characteristic of the individual writing. However, my visual impression is that the word is "reduced", though I do not know what that would mean in this context.
  13. You have to find and use the alternative accidental D#.
