$1200 should buy you a Stagi Hayden 46. But why not come and have a holiday in London and, if you like it, take back mine:

The UK Pound is dropping - it'll cost you nearly $100 less than when I posted that - so you can put the $500 difference towards the air fare :)

 

I now have a Concertina Connection Peacock. Only 42 buttons, so I can't play some tunes I used to :(

If you are not committed to the Hayden. There seem to be a lot of maccans out there.

2-3 k gets you a nice 55 button Wheatstone.

 

the stagi may have more buttons. But you might not find it much of an upgrade in terms of playability or sound.

Hi, how is your 55 key concertina's size  compared to the bandoneo?
