Samantha
It is with great sadness that I have to tell concertina.net that Henk van Aalten died on 8 March 2016 after a short illness. His funeral was today. I attach two images from his funeral notice: the quote from Henk, just a week before he died, on the card says “I am in a thousand little things”, and his family pay tribute to his warmth, peace, love, caring, wisdom and creativity which will be sorely missed. If you wish to share your own memories of Henk with his family you are invited to do so at the online remembrance book at http://www.uitvaartverzorgingkramer.nl/condoleanceregister/
Greg Jowaisas
I'm sorry to hear of Henk's passing. We exchanged a few emails. He was always helpful and seemed like a nice guy along with being a concertina enthusiast. R.I.P. Greg
Chris Timson
I've just told Anne, we're both shocked. Henk was a lovely chap, we've stayed with him in the Netherlands and have kept in contact since. He recorded a version of the Arran Boat that I always play when checking out audio in the studio. I'll miss him. Chris
Bruce McCaskey
So very sorry to hear of his passing. I always enjoyed his postings here, his obvious passion for the concertina, and I greatly appreciated his comments and insights in the email exchanges we shared some years back. He will be missed. Roger Digby
That is really sad news. When visiting England, Henk's ferry landed at Harwich and he sometimes visited me as he drove on along the A12. I have one happy memory of sitting with them in the garden on a sunny summer day and playing music together. He was a charming, genuine man and will be greatly missed. bellowbelle
I never met Henk but I appreciated the page he created way back (which I guess is gone now, haven't been able to find it again) -- The Recorded Tunes Links Page. I am sorry to hear this news.
RatFace
The last time I met Henk was up on Arran for the concertina gathering in 2012. We stayed on for a bit afterwards, and so did Henk and his friends, so we met up once or twice to play music: https://goo.gl/photos/xmHgj5p71NMKZPxB6 Sad to not be able to do that again, but happy to have the good memories. Jody Kruskal
That's sad to hear. Henk's Recorded Tunes Links Page was a great resource for allowing us to hear each other back before youtube and soundcloud and such. It is still available with many of the links working and playable. http://web.archive.org/web/20080229061651/http://www.anglo-concertina.net/links.htm Henk's generous work on designing and maintaining the page was very appreciated. He is missed.
