  1. Wow! That's a potential happy ending and a half! Chris
  2. I seem to have fewer concertina cases than I thought and need one for my new Jeffries 26 button G/D. Does anyone have one they want to sell? If it fits a Lachenal 30-button then it should do nicely. Cheers, Chris
  3. The Jeffries G/D I bought from Greg arrived today and it is precisely the concertina I was looking for. Greg is a very nice person to deal with and the whole transaction went as smoothly as any such transatlantic deal can. Thanks, mate. Chris
  4. There was some wood found on the Mary Rose which was identified as part of a concertina. I wonder ... Chris
  5. I still think it's a game of some kind, obviously recognisable as such by observers but the rules are almost totally obscure - like cat chess. Chris
  6. You might like to consider using different software. Reaper is a fully functional multi track studio recording package that's free for 60 days and only $60 after that. Its functionality goes way beyond anything Audacity can do. For historical reasons I use Logic Pro in my studio but if I were starting again I would probably go with Reaper. Chris
  7. "The Heritage instruments include an ebony concertina with rosewood trim, as well as a bocote model with ebony trim. Both these instruments will use genuine concertina reeds." Are you making your own reeds now, Frank? Hadn't noticed, I'm afraid. Comes of taking my eye off the ball while I desperately learn to sing in my wife's opera. Chris
  8. I have deleted the content of my post because it said much the same as yours, Irene. This is an awful start to 2014. Chris
  9. Gareth posted this on Facebook about an hour ago" "Ralph has been on life support for over 24 hours now. He is peaceful and being well cared for, but may be fading. Sheena remains with him at the hospital. She asks that, if you know of friends who might not see this, you let them know". I just don't know what to say. Chris & Anne
  10. Tried to think of something witty and cool to say, failed miserably and decided that the best thing is just Happy New year everyone. Have a really good one. Chris
  11. Hmmm. I see that with this post you - blue eyed sailor - have posted exactly 777 times. Gpanda has listed his concertina exactly 111 times. 777 - 111 = 666! Spoookyyy ... Chris
  12. And in a classic example of type, our friend gpanda has relisted the beast at a starting price of 99 euros, waited until bidding was brisk and then delisted on the grounds of an error in the listing. Subsequently he (he? Perhaps an unwarranted assumption) has relisted it again for 9900 euros (yes, that's over 8000 pounds). Clearly this is some sort of private game he is playing with the world and he will never sell it. Personally, I think it's a financial version of Mornington Crescent, possibly using Buffett's Variation or the Threadneedle Underspend. Chris
  13. Well, since other people have put up some music I'll put this up, if that's OK - probably won't be because there's no concertina in it However it is a carol written by Anne and performed only last Sunday (that's me singing the bass line) so we can't make it much more seasonal ... Green Grows the Holly Chris
  14. As I sit here it's 25 past 12 on Christmas morning. So it seems most apt to say happy Christmas and a most excellent new year. And may you have the squeeze of your dreams. Chris
  15. Anyone else noticed how either the concertina has got some anti-gravity circuitry built in or it's been glued to a towel? Chris
  16. Greg and I are talking about this one now, but we've agreed to give it a couple of days in case anyone in the UK has one, given the duties payable on it as it comes into the UK. Thanks, Chris
  17. I think one of those is a Jones. The one at the bottom is definitely a Jeffries as I used to own one just like it. Chris
  18. I had one of these about 10 years ago but swapped it for a 30 button Jeffries. Have regretted it ever since (still in love with my 38 button, mind, but there are times when a smaller box is nice). Anyone looking to sell one? Chris PS I changed G/d to G/D while editing but the software still insists on showing G/d in the title. Annoying ...
  19. What goes around comes around, on ebay at least. Chris
  20. Ah, can't make Devizes, lovely club though it is, because we have a session to run that night in Bradford on Avon. We'll do our best to make the Swindon gig, no, that's out too. Anne has written an opera (Make Room For Mummers) and there's a rehearsal that night. Drat. Have a good trip anyway. Cheers, Chris & Anne
  21. But it doesn't help people like me who have always been scrupulously straight about their postage. We're being penalised and it just feels like ebay are making a fast buck out of me. Here's how I found out. I put a book up for auction, largish and the cost of posting is £5.60. Sadly it sold for 99p. Well, that's life, you win some, you lose some. Buyer pays Paypal £6.59, I get £6.17. Post Office takes £5.60, ebay takes 10p final fee plus 56p final fee on postage. I'm left with -9p and no book. Chris
  22. Warning, those [sarcasm] fine and honourable persons of good will [/sarcasm] at ebay have just started taking 10% of any money paid to you by buyers for postage and packing. It shows up on your account as "Final value fee on postage". For me that's one step too far and I shall stop selling through ebay as of now. Chris
  23. Thanks, Lester, but I've recently sold my last 15m three tier concertina. Chris
  24. "See, I wasn't making it up, it was a square concertina!" In memorium Harold Herrington. Chris
  25. Well, goodness me, old boys, I'm frightfully glad that's over with for another year. Still, top hole while it lasted, what what? Chris
