  1. It was great fun to organize the deal - in a mix of English, German and Spanish ;-) Enjoy the instrument!
  2. I confirmed with a potential buyer that in fact it is the Chidley layout. In fact it seems to make much more sence than the normal MacCann system....
  3. How about 2.500 Euro ( 2.250 Sterling )?!? Do I hear any offers??
  4. At our recent German Concertina-Meeting a man appeared and left this huge baby with me to sell on his behalf. His father bought the instrument new in a German music-store and never got around to playing it... It is a late ( 36715 / 9.3.1962 ) 6D MacCann Aeola. It is in "as new" condition, so is the box. Unfortunately ( or fortunately, who knows ) I never managed to play MacCann, so I can not tell you a lot about its playability. Comparing it with my older ESs I would suggest, that it would need to be played in, as it still feels and sounds "new"!?! The owner is looking for 2.800 Euro, but as time goes by he might be open to negotiation... I'm off to the SSI in Sweden over Easter....

This McCann has been on ebay for years. I could have bought it 2 years ago for 2000, but didn't want it. The seller keeps putting up the price... When I advised him that the price seemed to be a bit high, he threatened to report me to ebay.... The instrument has been discussed here long time ago...
  6. Hi, the first option should be to offer the instruments here on c.net to get an idea of the response. There is quite a market in Germany and Holland, so someone could cash and carry ( i.e. myself ;-)!
  7. I was lucky to buy a sweet little 12 key ebony-ended Aeola of Steve Chambers some 30 years ago....
  8. Chris Algar has done it again... for £3,750.85
  9. There are a few places left for our meeting - we should be more than 50 squeezers this year We have put up loads of music to prepare ( participants only ) See you all!
  10. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the German Concertina-Meeting we have invited several great teachers to our seminar-center in the North of Germany. There will be a variety of workshops for beginners, intermediate and advanced players and other goodies! There is a lot of music available online to get started - and we will cater for the English-speakers! Check out www.concertinas.de and look for the English link...
  11. Last year at Witney I bought a lovely Aeola bass off Chris Algar. However he wouldn't tell me, who restored it for him ( and did a phantastic job! ). I have a few questions and would like to discuss the bass-valves.... Anybody knows? Please send PM
  12. A little magic: I converted a baritone-treble to a tenor-treble in F by exchanging the F and F# reeds. It now plays with normal fingering ( one row down ) a fifth lower, which is a brilliant range for a concertina! I love to play this instument! I also turned a 56 key extended treble into a tenor-treble in G by exchanging the B and Bflat reeds. It now plays with normal figering ( one row up ) a forth higher. Not quite as useful a range... Useful is, however, that now I have three keys available with my one favourite fingering, which is great to pay along with or learn tunes form recordings. Second option: I use the program Capella to write music. It comes with scan-software, which works quite well. So if I want to transpose, I scan the original music, convert it to Capella-format and then use Capella to transpose it to any key I want..
  13. I contacted the seller and told him, that the beauties were only available in GB - and told him about this thread: Hallo conzertino, We'll remove any restrictions, tho i wasnt aware of any. And the world is more than welcome to start bidding instead of watching. Many Thanks p.s. we are aware of the thread and quite honestly a little dissappointed in human conduct in general. this hasn't been an easy thing to do in the circumstances. PS: My comment: nobody would part with such a fine collection without good - or not so good - reasons....
  14. Back to the baritone: did you notice that one bidder put in a bid of 10.000 and withdrew it later ( the same bidder went along to 7.100, if I remember rightly ).....
  15. I noticed that my concertinas suffer in winter from the low level of humidity ( well below 40% ). I keep them on a shelf, so that I can easily access them for a tune or two... Recently I bought a humidifier, which seems to do a good job. Any experts out there who can tell me the safest humidity level to keep concertinas?? What do they do in museums?
  16. I just bought a lovely 64 key baritone-treble Aeola. In the box I found a paper with pics and some information about the former owner Leonardo ( Len ) Henry Jones. Has anybody any information about him? He must have been a famous player!?!
  17. Hi, the good news: I have a good Jack with gig-bag for sale ( 200 Euro ), the bad news: We both live in Germany. If you like, I could check out the postage for you!?! More news: The good news: it is sold! The bad news: it is sold!
  18. This instrument has been on ebay.de for over two years and has been covered on this forum before. An ebay-dealer bought it off an ebay-broker some 20 months ago, who had offered it to me for 2.000 - but I refused.... I have contacted the seller over a year ago informing hin that the price was a little high ( at 2500 Euro ) . Consequently he raised the price. Chirs Algar had some nice duets at Witney - at least you know, what you are getting!
  19. In the year 1991 Mario Kliemann ( Irish anglo ) Jürgen Leo ( two-row German-concertina ) and myself ( ES ) organised the first concertina-meeting in Bielefeld / Germany. We had many loud and wonderful weekends over the years with many great teachers, amongst them Noel Hill, Tim Collins, Juliette Daum and Pietro Valente. After Mario died in 2008 we decided to continue the event at my seminar-center in the North of Germany. To celebrate the 20th anniversary we have invited Alistair Anderson ( ES ) and Mary Macnamara ( IA ) to teach and play. Furthermore there will be Claus Keßler ( IA ), Rainer Schwarz ( German two-row ), Adrian Brown ( anglo ), Juliette Daum ( ES beginners and band ), Rainer Süßmilch ( ES, Jazz ), myself ( Robert Pich, ceili / band ) and Jürgen Suttner ( concertina-clinic ) We have a full schedule of workshops, master-classes, concert, concertina-flea-market etc. Our center has 31 guest-rooms and we provide full board and plenty of drink! Please check out our website concertinas.de for details and registration. There is an English version available and there will be English spoken in the workshops! If you have to travel far, you are welcome to arrive earlier or stay on a day or two. The meeting will take place from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th March 2011. We hope to see you all! Robert & Juliette PS: At the meeting 2008 in Bielefeld I met Juliette Daum, who was teaching ES. One came to the other - and in May we got married...
  20. Hi, I might be interested in your tenor. I have a fine 48 key Aeola F-Tenor and I love to play it! But I could probably do with a second one... What kind of money are you looking for? Chris Algar recently put a box just like this one on ebay ( unrestored ), which didn't sell for 800!?! Juliette and I will attend this year's concertinas@Witney. Will you be there? Could we see you on the way? Please send pm! ( your mailbox seems to be full, I couln't pm you! )
  21. I was in touch with the seller. A concertina-player visited him and called the instrument a "cello". To me that makes sence. I have seen several bass-baritones that were called "cello" ( down to C an octave below a tenor, like the cello from the violin-family ). I own a nice double-action Lachenal bass ( down to G ) and I have seen a few Wheatstones in that range. If they go down even further to C, they should rightly be called contra-bass...
  22. Here she comes again - this time for auction!
  23. I contacted the seller: he promised to change the finger-rests...
  24. I would say that the Boyd Wheatstone is an incredible professional instrument ( Alistair Anderson plays one ). For many years I couldn't make up my mind, whether to prefer the Boyd or my best Aeola. I am prepared to offer 2.000 Sterling for a back-up, but it should fetch more...
