  1. yep i sold the Dipper. Really regret it now, but times were hard. Sorry to hear of the death of Geo, he sent me some tunes and advice on playing it. Glad it has a good home down under.
  2. I am selling my concertina on eBay. It is pitched in g/d and is basically a jeffries body that at some time in it's life has been in the hands of crabb and has had the Jeffries brass reed blocks replaced with aluminium making it much lighter. The buttons are bone and it has had an extra button added on the left hand side in f an octave apart on the push and pull. I boughtmthe concertina off Keith Kendrick whomsold it to raise funds for a louder Jeffries concertina in g/d. The concertina is very fast and responsive and ideal for playing standing due to the reduction in weight the modifications afford. It has a powerful yet mellow tone and benefits from the recent addition of new 7 fold bellows. Before Keith sold it, he had it valued at the music room who stated it should be worth £5000 a 5500 at auction, which obviously is a valuation not reflecting the current financial mess the world is in. It is on eBay with no reserve and I am hoping it will find it value by Market forces. 3. Weird, winning bidder from Australia bids in the final seconds and then no contact from him. Looks like the concertina isn't going to South Australia after all!
  4. I've got an old hexagonal wooden case. Someone's paired it black but its in good nick. Drop me your address and I'll post it to you
  5. Winning bidder was from Australia.
  6. If you import use ups. They have their own clearing agents. Also, if you explain to them that the item is totally hand made and not mass produced, you will get the 5% vat rate instead of 22%. I have used them twice when importing high value banjos made by Doug Unger in 2005 and in both cases I had the vat set by ups at 5%. Doug unger only makes a handful of banjos a year and specialises in stunning mother of pearl inlay.
  7. I played this instrument when it was at the Button Box. Absolutely glorious sound; I never heard anything like it. And a wonderful player. If I had the $ I'd buy it in a flash. It is lovely, but not the right key for my needs. I have bought a crab/Jeffries hybrid in g/d and a Marcus deluxe in c/g. Both play fine but none match the beauty of the Dipper.
  8. My link Im selling my Dipper shantyman on ebay at the moment. Its a beautiful concertina but ive just bought a g/d and c/g which are more suitable for my needs at the moment especially as am attending workshops etc were everyone else is in c/g. Anyhow if anyones interested, here is a link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230828331072?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  9. I have just bid several million pounds for the concertina so don't try to outbid me
  10. I recently attended a workshop in Gleanings study centre in Shropshire, Uk, run by Reece Weston. Unfortunately for myself, I turned up with a g/d concertina whereas everyone else had c/g's. Being new to the concertina, I didnt realise that for Irish playing you need a c/g. Never mind, the fingering for the tunes is the same. Excellent workshop by Reece and I came away having learned three tunes. Here is a short video of Reece teaching us a tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-_h__fo6jw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  11. I have sent you an email yesterday offering to buy this concertina. Contact me at spartanrifles@aol.com
  12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-concertina-Needing-restoration-/110867554655?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Keyboard_RL&hash=item19d038a15f#ht_500wt_922 Only been on a day, dosnt work and has leaky bellows, what is it a rare Jeffries?
  13. The box may be able to take it but I can't yet. Lovely concertina George, I hope one day to do it justice. As you can see from the surroundings,I am banished to the garage at the moment but hopefully I'll improve and be allowed in the house shortly. Do you have any recommendations for suitable easy tunes, the emphasis being on easy?
  14. Thanks, do you use the air button in midfflow as I seem to keep running out of air or nearly running out of air. It's quite hardto practise a new tune slowly as the slower I play, the more air I use. Getting the right notes is one thing but getting the air seems harder.
