  1. No first hand experience, but have you considered a recumbent bike?
  2. I will admit that even prior to this post I was wondering if such a thing had been made. What would it be like?
  3. Looks like great fun! These pictures make me realize that all acoustic panels should be quilts.
  4. @Jody Kruskal, full marks for putting this in the correct section of the forums
  5. As a trumpet player, it's nice to consider having the option to smoke while playing music.
  6. I wasn't here 10 years ago, so at least one person appreciated the re-post. 😀
  7. I've come from trumpet. First school band then jazz jam sessions. Also a smattering of guitar over the years.
  8. As a concertina newbie, one of my challenges is understanding the range of timbres that different concertinas make and how to talk about the differences. This makes it harder to understand if I've even heard concertina timbres at the ends of the spectrums. This leaves me with two questions: 1. What language or taxonomy do you find useful to describe concertina timbres? For example, Walker concertinas has a "mellow" to "bright" scale: https://www.wakker-concertinas.com/anglo overview.htm 2. Which individual specimens of instruments would you point to as examples of the poles or extremes of concertina timbres? If a good quality recording is easily available online, I would find that a really helpful resource.
  9. I feel this. My concertina obsession is definitely well known, despite my newbie status. Since it's so hard to try different free reed instruments, you almost have to talk it out when picking one to play. Want to learn trumpet? You can rent one easily in any moderately sized town. Want to play a selection of concertinas? Harder to do.
  10. Lukasz, I've just been through your referenced posts, and they are quite inspiring. Well done!
  11. Last year I decided to try my hand at playing Irish traditional music. Since my Jazz trumpet timber and volume wouldn't be welcome at a session, I started listening to ITM recordings with as many instruments as possible. I loved the sound and versatility of the concertin in those recordings. I tried playing the first anglo I could lay my hands on, and promptly ordered a Hayden duet. Love the concertina, hate how many rules the Anglo key layout nearly follows. Hayden just makes sense to me. I'm waiting on a Jay concertina now.
  12. Step 1: Enjoy the local Dublin (Ohio) Irish music festival Step 2: Contemplate joining local Irish traditional music sessions Step 3: Local ITM folks point me at Thesession.org forum Step 4: TheSession.org post about concertina points me at this forum
