  1. Hi Geoff, It's intersting that it is C,G,D. In terms of quality with Crabb concertinas over the years, where would this one sit? I guess this would be a C/G with a D row instead of accidentals? Would the D row be lower or higher than the c row?
  2. I have noticed on a number of aeolas that the end type doesn't seem to be the defining characteristic for whether the instrument is mellow or 'bright', quiet or loud. The generally believed rule, however, is that wooden ends are more mellow.
  3. This would be great feedback if someone could get it to Dave Townsend
  4. I'm sorry to say that my Witney experience was very similar. For me it was made esier by being able to stay with friends just outside of town. At the school, however, I found it quite an intimisating atmosphere.
  5. I think it's a timing thing Jim. January is a bad time to be selling. In the summer, a very ordinary unrestored 30-button mahogany-ended anglo went for GBP800. The 28-button Lachenal was mine and lt's a little cracker. I was surprised at how low the bidding was but I shouldn't have been. I had a nice Lachenal English last January that also didn't meet a reasonable reserve. I suspect it is the post-Christmas syndrome. I plan to hold on to my Lachenal until the market picks up. Fortunately, like you, I'm under no pressure to sell. I myself have noticed, however, that Chris Algar seems to be bidding higher on selected instruments such as the Aeola and an unrestored 30-button Lachenal Anglo. Maybe this is the time to be shopping for a bargain.
  6. Hey NUC, You're all over C.Net! I've put a response on the other topic thread you started. This instrument shoudn't have a lot of money thrown at it, in my opinion.
  7. NUC, I thought I replied yesterday but it didn't show up. I cruised ebay and this kind of instrument seems to go for about US$40 to 60. There is an accordion repair place in Toronto called the Canadian Music Centre, I believe (google Toronto and accordion). They are quite reliable. However, I would take the advice of the other members and cut your losses on this one. If you really want to play, you'll need the sort of instrument that Greg is talking about. I am in Toronto so if you want to drop by I can show you some vintage instruments. Contact me off list. Regards Paul
  8. Not my area but these Italian ones seem to go for about US$40 - 60 on Ebay
  9. Thgeo, I would suggest Dave Leese (concertina spares) in the UK or Concertina Connection as a back-up.
  10. I've bought this instrument so I'll let you know what I find when it arrives. Does anybody have any information on A Vallis and the morris?
  11. And it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Jim.
  12. Probably true for Irish music where you are just playing the tune (give or take the odd chord). For English music and Morris music though, the G/D comes into its own due to the full chording options available.
  13. When I go to the 'buy and sell' section, it tells me I haven't signed in. I then sign in, go to the 'buy and sell' and it tells me I haven't signed in. How do I get past this?
  14. Christian, It looks like a mahogany-ended Lachenal to me. Slightly better than the usual mahogany-ended ones (fancier fretwork, 6-fold bellows) but not as good as the rosewoods.
  15. There seems to be a bit of a link problem on ebay at present. I spotted the one mentioned above then couldn't find it again. This one also seems to have a problem: http://cgi.ebay.com/Outstanding-Restored-L...1QQcmdZViewItem It isn't showing up on the UK site or as newly listed on the US site. Perhaps it's just a short-term software problem. Nice concertinas though!
  16. Hi Brian, I'd be interested along with two others from Toronto (including Robin H). Please keep me informed.
  17. A welcome addition to the concertina world. I love the raised ends. It will be interesting to see how the performance shapes up. Well done Wim.
  18. If you don't play with others, I don't see why you need to get it to concert pitch. If you're selling, it would probably fetch more money in concert pitch but ifyou are keeping it no real need to change pitch.
  19. There is previous discussion on this here: http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=3261
  20. Definitely a scam. That one sold for about GBP2500 yesterday.
