  1. edit--oops, that one wasn't used--it was new.
  2. Answered my own question: Audioshift Tempo+Pitch Free version allows +/- 20% speed change, +/- 2 semitone pitch change. Full version does way more for $3.80 USD.
  3. all of the above! and the best for all of you too!
  4. I have heard nothing but good about the Concertina Connection instruments, and not much good about Stagi's. I had a C.C. Rochelle anglo for a few months and it was a great starter. I reckon the Jackie would be just as good.
  5. So glad to hear you're recovery is going well! It's so much attitude and perseverance--sound like you have healthy doses of both.
  6. Also, when I clicked the link to the seller's page, an additional tab opened in my browser (chrome), which I closed very quickly. I'm scanning my computer now for malware. be careful!
  7. thanks for the perspective! seems so uncertain especially coming from so far away and with no returns allowed. It *would* be a real risk, and I'd be lucky indeed to get away with minimal repairs.
  8. Hmmm, it *does* look quite similar. Greg, I'm going to assume that one's over my budget, or you would have told to me about it when we spoke. I still have the one you told me about in mind as i save up, though.
  9. so given the info the seller gives, what would the likely repairs be? and would it need to be tuned, do you suppose? Sorry for the obviously newbie questions.
  10. First off, this is not my auction. I'm in Massachusetts, this seller is in England. Fine Old Anglo Concertina Circa 1880 The seller doesn't say what this is. (They have great feedback, btw) Any ideas? ff
  11. Reviving the dead, me! I've been listening to and learning this self same tune of late (3 years after the OP!) and I definitely agree--Rynne's version is really great. It's a great tune anyway. The guitar on Rynne's version is really wonderful too. Sorry I can't answer your question. But I have one for you--do you do alot of cross row fingering on this tune or what? I learned it on whistle first (OAIM lesson) and just tried it out on concertina today for the first time. ff
  12. I hope none of you are silly enough to get sucked into the black friday thing in the states (where i live). I'm thankful I'm not. What the hell are these black-friday-partaking-people (not) thinking? What do folks abroad think of this? Is there an analogue in any other country? Makes many of us sick over here in the good ole US of A.
  13. Frank, I sent you an email, but I'll let it be known here as well--I received the "Flee as a Bird" CD you sent me some days ago and have been enjoying it since. Great playing, great sound. Thanks! And congrats on the national attention.
  14. Neilféin might be Irish for "Neil himself" too. But good call on the book center. I often mean to get over there me féin.
  15. Resurrecting this because i have a chance to maybe buy a Herrington--would either of you (or anyone else) say that the Herringtons have a more accordion-like sound than other hybrids?
  16. There's Mt. Holyoke (south hadley), UMASS (amherst), Smith (Northampton--a lovely campus to walk around), Amherst and Hampshire Colleges (amherst). All have art museums that are worth a visit. The Mead at Amherst College is free, as is The Mt. Holyoke College Museum I believe. Smith MOA charges. Umass I don't know. Hampshire has shows up in the gallery in the student center. The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is adjacent to Hampshire College, and Atkins Farm Store is a great place to get lunch. Their cider donuts are famous too! yum! Northampton is worth just walking around in. Check out Thorne's Marketplace--it's sorta like a mall, but in an old building, very quirky and swank at the same time. Lot's of great restaurants. Buskers. Lot's of galleries in Northampton too, as well as a music shop called Birdhouse music--lots of old mandos, fiddles, banjos, and random other stuff. Downtown Sounds is another, more typical musical instrument store--guitars and amps, drums and mics, P.A. gear etc. Nothampton is the place to be. Very true about the bookshops! Raven in Northampton but not sure about Amherst. Emily Dickinson museum is in Amherst. Hope is a thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, y'know.
