  1. I managed to contact Ebay at last. I await developments! Typo. on secondary title should read "for sale". I couldn't correct it!
  2. Also, by the way, The Iliad makes a very good read and you can find out all about the Gods, wind and otherwise, as you read!
  3. Greg, Just make sure that you don't get confused with American English and English English when you select your dictionary!!!! Ann
  4. Andrew, It looks great, could love an instrument like this. Pity I play duet (after a fashion!). Ann
  5. It's reared its head again. Anyone want a nice Wheatstone Tenor Treble? Only a couple of hundred quid at present! On Ebay of course. Does anyone know how to contact Ebay about it? I can't find my way round everything there yet!
  6. Dirge, I didn't know that you had a 3 wheeler Morgan. It's travelled a long way! They are made only 3 miles away from me and my cousin used to own one. You know they have just produced a "modern" 3 wheeler? We would see them driving around before they finally got them up for sale. We had four oldies on the guesthouse car park last year for the Morgan reunion weekend. They were in constant use and not "restored" as such. Just to get back on topic(!) I agree that it is a mistake to over restore things, originality is quite an important feature in quite a lot of items and just restoring function and cleaning without removing "age" I think is the preferable way to go.
  7. My brother's Boxer ate my wooden recorder which I had lent to my niece! Fortunately it was only a cheap E German school recorder. After many years I have replaced it with a nice rosewood model, stays well away from my Boxer's level!
  8. You can sell things produced legitimately at the time, within the copyright, but can't reproduce copies for sale except with permissions, either granted or bought. Copyright has limited lifespan, different for various materials, so this photo may not be copyright protected now.
  9. The Wheatstone has walnut ends, see the ledgers. He seems to have made quite a few in walnut around that time. Must have got a batch in then. This is the geezer who doesn't like publishing the serial nos, used to claim it was confidential for security reasons! I still have the old listings saved so can see them any time! My husband is a cabinet maker and says it's very difficult to tell what the wood on the Lachenal is, one end looks like rosewood, but the photos have clearly been taken at different times (background's different), can't really see the other end. The photo on the original listing shows the end with the number and doesn't look like walnut or rosewood. He needs the wood in his hand to be 100% certain. Did quite fancy having the Maccann to do some messing about on (non musical fiddling!) so might put in a bid. This might prompt it being pulled again! I don't think anyone will end up having either of these instruments!
  10. I have seen Chris' concertina, I am a "newbie" and didn't realise that some Maccanns started on 'C'. I have a New Model 55 key, with all leather bellows. I have a bit of frustration trying to play tunes without going up an octave, (although I should be used to this as I play recorder, mainly soprano). I sing soprano, so wanted to be at the same pitch. I spent an entertaining couple of hours trying to work out if you could move the keys around on a cheap 46 key (might need a few extras) to get the same effect. Nothing came of that, I don't know how the fingering would work! I did consider buying Chris's concertina, but can't really afford it. I also considered asking him for a part exchange, but I don't want to part with the New Model I have, partly because it was given to me by my father in law and it's a very nice instrument. He gave us 2 Maccanns, the other was a 46 key with brass reeds and rosewood ends which I tidied up and husband Brian repolished. We sold it on to finance the refurbishment and tuning of the better one by Andrew Norman. For those interested the numbers are 789 for the 46 key and 805 for the 55 key. Father in law's first wife's mother(!!) was an accomplished piano player, so may have had these in succession. I have looked at this topic on several occasions, so have totted up some of the 734 views!
  11. I love it! How many are you going to make!!!!!
