Ptarmigan
Does anyone here have any links to Northumbrian Pipes & Concertina being played together on YouTube? Links to sound files of that combination, would also be very useful? Ta Dick
Larry Stout
Alistair Anderson plays both. The CD Grand Chain lists one cut with both Northumbrian Pipes and concertina, though I don't remember if both are playing at the same time. Ptarmigan
If someone likes to try: I am selling my northumbrian 11 key smallpipe. Thanks, but I'm just about to receive my first ever English Concertina this week Klaus, so I think I have enough on my plate. Cheers Dick

There are a number of them on YouTube. A great testiment to her life and Peter's partnership with her. I chose this one because I love her rendition of the Abbey Reel. You might try Alistair Anderson on Youtube for the Northumbrian pipes. I might be mistaken but I've hear a BBC broadcast of Alistair with a soprano and if memory serves there was a northumbrian piper as well. Aye Mark, those Kitty Hayes and Peter Laban YouTubes are a delight. However, it's actually the Northumbrian pipes I am interested in hearing, along with the E. C. You might try Alistair Anderson on Youtube for the Northumbrian pipes. Theo
I believe that Andy May (Northumbrian pipes) and Rob Say (Pipes and concertina) have a CD in preparation. I know they did some recording this Spring, but I don't know how near they are to releasing it. I'll ask next time I see either of them.

John Wild
Some time ago, Alistair Anderson toured with the 'three Shepherds', Will Atkinson (mouthorgan), Willy Taylor (fiddle), and Joe Hutton (Northumbrian pipes). it is worth checking if they recorded together. - John Wild
Pete Dunk
The Wind in the Reeds by the Cut and Dry Band includes Alistair Anderson playing both Northumbrian Pipes and English concertina along with other pipers. I wouldn't say that the concertina stands out much on any of the tracks but it's good stuff anyway.

Ta Dick These two played with Jody at Witby last year 2007. http://www.pipesandfiddle.co.uk/News.htm Think there's something on Jody's site. Edited to add : There's a click possibility on their page to listen to them playing together. Chas Edited September 24, 2008 by fidjit

Stephen Chambers
Isn't there a big problem playing just about anything else with the Northumbrian pipes bacause of the pitch (between F & F#) that they're normally in?
Theo
I agree that many pipers only play on their own, or with other pipers and who stick with the old pitch, but some pipers are now quite socialised and have chanters in concert F or in G. There are several such who play in sessions round here. I don't think Jez Lowe would have taken on Andy May if Andy had insisted in playing in F blunt. Well Sam, who plays with us, has a set of F Pipes & two friends who visited us during the summer, also had F sets of N Pipes, so I guess they are becoming more common.
