Daniel Hersh Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Christian, can you show us a photo of the other end? And if you can somehow find out what keys this is in and whether it's in modern pitch, that would be very helpful too. My guess is that this is a Lachenal, but others are far more qualified to make that call than I am. Daniel I´m offering another find from south of germany. For this i need YOUR help again.........;-) Vintage 31 button concertina with serial number 162756. Rosewood ends with ebony buttons, marked ENGLISH MAKE TRADEMARK and steel reeds. 6 folded bellows with small green golden stars on the papers. pulling in and out tone is different, again i do have no idea of pitch and tune About condition: All buttons are working, instead of a few, tones are responding good. Only about 5-6 reeds with very minor rust points. Inner of right (mechanism) side is more dusty, left is very clean. Bellows without any visible leaks , rents or anything. Both wooden ends with some stress cracks, only one of them is caves a little. Box with sallied shut (three small parts seperated) and much traces of usage and old.
christian Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006 please email to: mercatore@t-online.de daniel, please what do you need? the side with serial or the other????? thanks
JimLucas Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 please what do you need?the side with serial or the other????? The photos above include two of the left-hand end, but none of the right-hand end. So the right end is what's needed.
Paul Read Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Christian, It looks like a mahogany-ended Lachenal to me. Slightly better than the usual mahogany-ended ones (fancier fretwork, 6-fold bellows) but not as good as the rosewoods.
michael rowbotham Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Just wanted to add a word - I was lucky enough to buy Christians previous concertina - the Crabb Jeffries. Apart from saying he's a top guy, and very trustworthy, in all the discussions we had Christian took great trouble to describe the concertina fairly, hiding nothing - for instance the photos he showed were the 'worst' reeds (most were mint) he pointed out where gluing/repairs had been carried out. This was useful because he's not a player himself. So anyone who's interested in this model of concertina, I can personally vouch that although not coming from a 'playing' source, there's a good chap at the other end. And just to concur with others, yes it looks like a 30 button mahogany Lachenal in pretty nice condition.
christian Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 hello everybody, i´m glad to tell all of you that my Lachenal is definetly pitched in Ab/Eb this might be not so interesting for most of you, but is more rare and great for singing with. with a little help from my friend this information was possible. he told me that the pads maybe needs to be replaced, to make it more soundful. hope that helps in deciding to buy or not...........;-) i would ask 1400 EUR, but do an offert. cheers
