"five Questions With..." (short Profiles)

Hi everyone :)

For a bit of fun, I've just added a new section to my website called: "Five Questions With..." - a series of mini-interviews with concertina players, builders and enthusiasts. I've just posted the first three interviews - John Williams, Jacqueline McCarthy and Jody Kruskal, and more are in progress (including our very own Paul Schwartz!]

The profiles can be found here: http://ptollemy.tripod.com/profiles/profiles.html. I hope you enjoy them. :)

Cheers,

Morgana :D

Hi Lars,

So far I've only added people to the list on the webpage who have already kindly agreed to take part. I'm still waiting to hear back from half a dozen or so.

Cheers,

Morgana :)

Excellent idea.

May I suggest some more questions, to make them scratch their heads a little?

1. What makes a style? Can it be learned or one has to be born into tradition?

2. What's the coolest thing on Earth?

3. What's the sweetest thing of all?

4. What's the most beatiful thing of all?

5. What is harmony?

6. Where exactly is a distinction between art and craft?

7. Have you ever wanted to quit music? Concertina?

8. Have you had formal training? Would you wish to have/not to have formal training?

9. In what way you'd like to improve a concertina?

10. Was it ever that you liked a tune, wanted to learn it and it didn't work?

11. How would you describe your style?

11. How would you describe your style?

That one might indeed be a head-scratcher. Many of the best artists are far better at practicing their art than at describing it.

As for the rest of your suggestions, Michael, they strike me as invitations to get involved in a series of slugfests, whereas my impression of Morgana's questions is that they're an invitation to share some personal feelings and friendship.

Everybody are invited to join. Feel like selebrities.

I think people who are trying to convince themselves that they're celebrities are among the least interesting on earth. I prefer to let Morgana do it her way. She's already shown the quality of her results.

I agree Jim

At the time of writing I have submitted my bit to Morgana and I am rather pleased that I did not have to work at the other questions suggested by m3838. In fact I think I would have declined the whole thing.Nothing personal m3838 but it turns an amusing little write up into an essay.Boring for the writer and equally boring for most of the readers.

Well done Morgana you are obviously giving this project a lot of thought and I wish you well with it.

Hold yer horses, gentlemen.

I didn't suggest all of my questions are a "must". I just suggested to may be shuffle questions and have interviewees to share some deeper insights.

Or let the persons asked, to choose 5 out of a bunch. To their liking.

It's interesting to ask a revered person any question, and I believe a good one can open a person in such a light, it will totally change your perception.

Questions no.2-4 are not random, by the way.

These are the questions, asked by magic creatures in russian folk stories.

The point is to find out if a hero of a story is any good. If he's good, the magic creatures will help him (usually to steal a beauty from an ugly Monster), if not, they'll eat him.

As for selebrities - we're in the same boat, Jim. Don't take it too literally.

OK, I'll open another thead.

Good job, Morgana. Can't wait for the next group of people to be interviewed.

Thank you all for your input and support - I really appreciate it. :)

I've just added two new profiles to the site: Alan Day and Bob Tedrow.

Cheers,
