I wasn't aware that Monty Python wrote a series of books on the concertina. Still; if it was anything like "The Life of Brian", surely it must have been the definitive work. Posted November 24, 2010 Share Posted November 24, 2010 What Ralphie forgot to say in his state of enthusiasm was that Baz Parkes' review of "Eloise" in "English Dance and Song" (or EDS) was exceedingly favourable (and very rightly so. Ar risk of being thought partisan, in my opinion it's eminently listenable to. I have CD's at home which were recorded by other friends which have only seen the daylight once, been played once, and laid reverently to rest. In the case of "Eloise" - she's still out in the daylight and has been played quite regularly since I got my own copy). I think it's worth quoting Baz in part : "Rarely have I heard a recording which conveys such levels of artistry and enjoyment in equal measure, whilst the adjective "eclectic" might have been coined for the contents. From Kent to Sweden via Battersea and the Light Programme, there's something for everyone". In other words, I think you could say that he liked it, as the rest of his review confirms. If anyone is down in my neck of the woods (ie Guildford way) I have a small supply of Ralphie's CD to sell for him - so if you're not going to buy it via Paypal, you could always try buying one from me.
