  1. You have to get hold of some episodes of sorry I haven't a clue...then it makes sense. I have he little book of mornington crescent to hand....and a London AtoZ. crafty...although I found it a nightmare getting there.
  2. Not going this year I'm afraid. Enjoyed it last year though. Here's a vid from last year of the session there...some cnetters making an appearance
  3. I'll be going to melodeons & more for the 3rd time in march. First time I went I had one of the cheap 30buttons from hobgoblin (bellows were stiff at first but after about a year they were okay) and had learnt the tunes in the wrong key. (Oy! no laughing). I now have a Tedrow C/G which has helped my playing...as sometime the old scarlatti (I sold it last year...but if it came up for sale again I'd buy it back in a heartbeat) had trouble keeping up with me. Which classes have you chosen? btw. try as many concertina's at M&M as you can gives you an idea of what you want.
  4. Listening to this 'The Honest Musician's Fear of Accidental Plagiarism' http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00xw21s mentions 'trad songs' at one point. Not concertina related but interesting from the POV of copyright etc.
  5. Been trying to think of an answer to this thread but I guess I never listen to any music exclusively thinking 'oh, I have to know how to interpret that'. I tend to stick my earphones in put i-tunes on shuffle and...go with the flow. So anything gain must be subconsciously done.
  6. Speed the Plough-played on C/G Tedrow Anglo Concertina http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=38495
  7. Didn't say get your coat you've pulled then? ....its better than kareoke lady ga ga songs. Watch and learn Sarah us oldies walk down the hill. You'd run if you heard me 'singing' from the top....

  16. I went form concertina to melodoen....and found it much easier. I also find skills learnt on one helps the other as well.
  17. Practice. Be gentle. Work out exactly how much pressure you need to make a sound just audible. I learnt to play very quietly. Now, if I put the TV on I can play quietly at the same time and no one realises I'm playing.
  18. Speed the knitting (basic mix - fiddle & melodeon) http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=34622 Speed the Knitting (every instrument in the house) http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=34624 Thanks goes to zaivanbujis on fiddle forum for recording the main fiddle part.
  19. Its probably a bit mental but..... get a A4 peice of cardboard draw or print image of buttons, then fold it in half RH on one end and LH on other. At least you can practice the fingering. Silent and cheap. I did a similar thing when wanting to practice melodeon but as I was camping had no where to story it securely, plus not wanting to disturb neighbouring campers.
  20. Already got two people record versions on another forum http://www.fiddleforum.com/fiddleforum/index.php?topic=33124.msg295493
  21. That 'Freedom Pass' will soon arrive! By M&M, mine will be 3.5 years away. I'm only measuring it that way coz that's where I bought my first melodeon.
  22. This is my original recording...with 'mistakes' http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=31996
