  1. Among the modern makers, I think you would be hard pressed to find any discernible difference in timbre between like instruments in a recording.
  2. Old Town Band plays nicely on the C/G Anglo.
  3. Hi Shawn, yes the book is available from me. Do you want a PDF download or print copy?

  7. Another Jody Kruskal concertina tune from my latest tune book, STRANGE TIMES. Available as a print copy or pdf download. Contact me directly through www.jodykruskal.com
  8. Two more from my Strange Times tune book, Lonesome Spring and The Forever Alpine Waltz Lonesome Spring perhaps evokes the Canadian Rockies and sweet crooning around the campfire at some mining or cowboy camp. I’ve always admired Swiss yodeling and so I’ve put a bit of that flavor into Forever Alpine Waltz. Both tunes have a song in their hearts.
  9. Try holding the button down while tapping the end plate with a handy finger.

  11. Randy, somehow I had you pegged as golf sort of guy.
  12. Great to hear Walk Along John to Kansas on Anglo in any key that works. One of my favorite tunes. Personally, I play it more along these lines.
  13. Merry Romp, another tune from my latest tune book, STRANGE TIMES. Available from me as a print copy or pdf download. www.jodykruskal.com
  14. Here is a new Strange Times tune recording... A Farewell To Normal
  15. Oh yes, I did some recordings of concertina players I admire playing a variety of systems. Could be useful listening. http://jodykruskal.com/player_profiles.html Also, I was listening to an LP of the master panpiper Zamfir playing baroque concertos. Impressive! I thought of this thread.
  16. Interesting drift, but back to OPs question of using concertina for "classical" written orchestral music. I am a working composer in a number of genres and a professional Anglo player and teacher. My suggestion is to write for the English concertina and think of it as a violin playing mostly single line with only occasional double stops or chords. My reasons... Most Anglo players do not sight read standard notation. (right?) Many English players do. (right?) English has a long history of "classical" play from written notation. (right?) Anglo is more of a folk instrument, learned by touch and ear. (right?) English has an almost one to one correlation between the buttons and the pitch produced. This simplifies things for both the player and the composer. Anglo has a bewildering number of different buttons that could be used for any one pitch and an even greater number of combinations for any phrase. This makes the Anglo more of a puzzle than the comparatively straightforward English. English can play in a greater number of keys than the Anglo, so any modulation or unusual keys you employ will have a greater likelihood of playability. The same is true for chromatic writing. The Anglo is at its core a diatonic instrument. I wish you success with your project.
  17. A few weeks ago I attended the North East Squeeze-In, a yearly gathering of free reed players. We met for a weekend of free reed fun at Wisdom House Conference Center near Litchfield CT in the US. Workshops, concerts, dancing, singing and a limerick contest. I took home bragging rights as the first place limerick winner. As with this sort of prosody, it's best to speak these things out loud, so I've included the accented syllables with underlines to help you get the rhythm right. Hamlet's Concertina Dilemma It’s so late, yet I long for a session Still, my household needs aural discretion (Shhhh) But I’m down on my knees Begging... to squeeze Or not to squeeze, that is the question?
  18. I'm working on a new book of my tunes for the C/G 30 button Anglo concertina. Here is the start of my introduction. Do you think the second sentence is really true? "This book is a collection of my original tunes edited and transposed for harmonic play on the C/G 30 button Anglo concertina. If you buy a concertina today, that is the kind you will likely get."
  19. I just stumbled on an amazing instrument that I had never heard before, the Harpejji. Listen to Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) on Harpejji G16 by Mathieu Terrade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr87Z7rZiWE ---------- Oh, if I only had another lifetime. This would be worth persuing.
  20. The only thing that bothers me about Hot Cross Buns is how much do they actually cost? is it one a-penny or two a-penny? Really, please!
