  1. A great improvement, I think. Very nice Bob. It did cross my mind that you could get the best of both worlds by using bolts with Robertson heads (square opening) and avoid the screwdriver slipping issues while maintaining the aesthetics. I guess the onlt problem would be the need to supply a screwdriver for people outside of Canada!
  2. some scammers have been known to hijack identities. However, why would they hijack an indifferent feedback such as this. Risky but may be OK.
  3. And, as I understand it, the bodhran has only been used since the 1930s. Hardly antiquated - oops opening for new thread and many jokes!
  4. Can you give the URL? OK, I found it. (edit). there was some talk about round lachenals acouple of weeks ago.
  5. I guess this raises the question of bellows papers. I've always thought that the old makers each had their own pattern of papers. I have seen Wheatstones with papers that I would have thought were Lachenal papaers , however. The papers on this one are quite distinctive. Has anyone ever studied this?
  6. This pretty thing has just sold on ebay. They were confused as to the make. I thought it was a Wheatstone but now I'm thinking it is probably a George Case. Over to you guys (Stephen?) Concertina
  7. Here we go again. This one looks rather fishy to me: Crabb on ebay
  8. Thanks Stephen, Do you know what that material was?
  9. I wasn't around concertinas back then, so this is only what I've been told, but weren't there a lot of negative comments about Neil Wayne for this very reason in the 70s and 80s?
  10. Hi Robin, I'm not too sure, but I believe that the black material covering the cardboard usually is not leather but a leather-looking material. I wonder if one of our historians can advise? This raises another question. On old Lachenal anglos there are often red baffles (usually shrivelled!). Although I've always assumed they were leather, this material also often appears to be another material. Does anybody know what was actually used, if it isn't leather. I suspect the two questions could be linked.
  11. I'll jump in too. I've dealt with Chris a few times and went away happy every time.
  12. Here it is Lachenal Pronunciation
  13. Go into the archives. This one has been kicked toi death before. I pronounce it Lash-unn-al
  14. The Carroll concertinas are modelled on the Linota. He would have a wait but they seem to represent good value.
  15. Sounds Czech to me. They do make button boxes.
  16. I don't know how I put this in 'history', but I'm reposting it in the correct place now - I'm about to embark on a task that I haven't tried before - regilding bellows on a nice 30B Jones where there is wear in areas of the (still sound) bellows. Can anybody suggest a good guidance on doing this work? Gold pens from Tandy has been suggested.

  18. I'd be interested to know what others think about retuning concertina reeds a full octave.
  19. As to value, I would suggest looking at the ebay results for concertinas over the last week or two. There have been a number of Lachenals of similar quality sold recently. Remember though that the value depends a lot on whether it has been restored or not.
  20. I see Chris Algar has an interesting instrument hereAeola. Anybody any ideas on what its story may be?
  21. I looked at the bidding pattern of the winner. Given that he bid a few times and that he's based in Ireland, I think this was a genuine bidder. I guess time will tell.
  22. Perhaps you could post the photos?
  23. The other advantage of the drone is that it is operated by the thumb (it is on my 40B Lachenal anyway) and so leaves the other fingers free.
  24. I would imagine that there would be occasions where the drone would be useful in accompaniment of slow songs. I do it sometimes with my English
