Hi, I have not been playing my concertinas much these last few months and would like to sell this model in order to re-invest - you know how it goes :-). I bought this instrument off of ebay a few years back as an upgrade to the entry level 30 key instruments, which it was. If I recall from the seller, it was originally purchased and played by a blind street musician in Canada and brought back to Scotland where it sat in a cupboard for many years. Hence it is probably in as good as a condition you can get for an instrument getting on for 60 years old. I like the fact it is as old as I am, hmm but in some respects seems to have fared better :-) Anyway, given this instrument participated in a few ToTMs on this forum I thought I would offer it here first. Comes with a case. I am in Herefordshire in the UK. £425 . Thanks.

it exceeded my expectation - I thought the camera work was spot on and followed the leading musicians as one would themselves. The sound and was very good and was able to easily pick out the individual instruments. In all, I believe they managed to capture the magic that is Leveret :-) Agree the interview was a bit pointless, but was pleased that the show was set up for a online audience in mind, e.g. no interval. and Rob Harbron was the only person not to have an instrument change :-)

hi - on my part it was just an observation, although I am still playing, I realised I was visiting this site less because Totm/ThoTM was no longer there. The reasons for its demise have been well aired already and just wondered if other people were visiting this site less as a result. It appears some of us are.

This is just an observation - and I understand the reason why Tune of the Month and Theme of the Month were stopped - however, I find I am visiting this site far less these days as a result of that decision.

Leveret must rank as one of the finest traditional instrumental bands ever. BBC Radio 3 had a whole host of "folk connections" shows last weekend. I am still catching up with them - Shirley Collins - Private Passions was the obvious place to start. I believe I only have Cecil Sharp's Appalachian Trail -Andy Kershaw's tracing Cecil Sharp's 1916 trip to go. Well done Radio 3 in giving folk music so much coverage!!!

Agree with above - many thanks to Jim and most of all thank you for your encouragement and support. However, I also agree there just did not seem to be an awful lot of contribution. Where the Melodeon net community scores is that it is primarily focussed on English morris with a good scattering of european music. The concertina net is far more eclectic and I hold my hand up to not even looking at totm if it was not an English tune or something appealing.

thanks Geoff for the Audacity guidance and to think I was was once a sound engineer for a band - though, it was all analogue in those days :-) Nice tune as well.

sadly, due to one reason or another, I have hardly picked the concertina up in the last few months. But am gradually easing my way back in and saw the the thotm as a good way to reconnect. Köiklaten is a beautiful tune and deserves to be wider known. I only know of one version of it on the Norrland CD (it's jazz folks - but very tasteful) - here is my interpretation, I lose the waltz time and a mix of my general poor level of music reading ability and musical incompetence has produced something - err different :-) You need to turn it up - I do not know why this USB mic records so softly on audacity even with mic vol set to high. Even my wife is singing along - true. - this is rare :-) There was a fascinating docu on BBC4 just recently on Joy Division, I was very moved by it and recommend it to anyone interested in serious music. Though I have always had a copy of Closer, I had not truly grasped what a genius Ian Curtis was. P.s. heard you on The Folk Show this week as well - well done again

I have had a bad virus this month and consequently not kept up to speed with this forum and having now played all the contributions on this thread, well wowee, what an excellent collection of well executed music there is - one of Concertina.nets finest. And welcome to robotmay - good to see another member of the melodeon.net contributing over on this side - and a pretty impressive contribution it is. So a late contribution from me, I had been trying to nail Swaggering Bonny, but still not entirely confident playing it, so elected for 3 self penned - all done in 2 takes during a hurried lunch break earlier today - sorry for speeding up - I put it down to excitement or longing for my peanutbutter sandwich :-). LOL - thanks guys. As for the local Morris side doing it - I am very much a closet musician - this is part due to my competence level and also due to a hearing impairment, where I find it difficult playing with other people - especially a lot of other people.

following on from my first somewhat flawed attempt at totm, here goes on my first, err flawed again then, attempt at thotm :-). I am going for local to mean a self-penned tune and an attempt at a very famous local Morris tune. The self-penned tune (The Lyonshall Dance) was written just after we moved into the village. Not my best, or indeed worst, it just simply arose as I was playing and looking out of the window at the village, So certainly locally inspired. The second tune is I believe from a village a few miles across the ridge called Dilwyn - the tune is known as "Not for Joe" or sometimes just Dilwyn - which would suggest it is from Dilwyn, or perhaps someone had a nice holiday there. Played on a Wheatsone Mayfair C/G. Now, I do apologise as I seem to be making random grunts as I play - it must be the microphone as I sure don't remember making any noise whilst playing :-) It sounds something like Timothy Spall in Mr Turner and can confidently say if I normally made those noises then Mrs C would definitely have something strong to say! In the end I was playing with a scarf wrapped around my mouth with concertina at full arms length (I am serious) and still I could hear it on play back. Well I could on the office playback system so it may be this system is at fault. Alternatively it might be a ghost :-) The house was originally built in 1450 so who knows. I confess to making a really noticeable mistake (I mean really noticeable as opposed to all the minor ones) on the B section 2nd pass -please forgive me it was the best take of 10 (well the ones I bothered keeping) or so up to that point and have assumed most people would had given up listening by then - hmm, perhaps I have inadvertently made you listen all the way through now :-) If anyone has any tips on grunt avoidance please let me now - microphone is a Samson CO1U USB Condensing mic straight into Audacity.
