  1. This is still for sale. I too have reported it twice, and have just managed to find a message box where I explained what was going on. Ebay don't make it easy for people to write messages to them! Edit: Perhaps if lots of members report this now to ebay, weight of numbers may prevail!
  2. I put a bid on for the Aeola as I wanted to see what happened. Ebay didn't hang around this time, sent me an email just before midnight. The tinas are gone. Yet again there were many (I lost count) of high value guitars and saxes (Gibson, Fender, Selmer etc) and photo and microscope stuff too. I didn't get to the end of the list. A lot of the guitars and saxes had several bids on them after only 4 hours on sale. Message received as follows: Thank you for your interest in this listing: 150977014359 - Vintage Wheatstone concertina Aola squeeze box Unfortunately, the listing is no longer available. We understand that this may be disappointing, but sometimes we need to remove listings to protect buyers. There are three main reasons why we remove listings: -- The listing doesn't follow eBay guidelines. -- The item isn't allowed on eBay or can only be listed under certain conditions. -- The listing contains pictures or words in it that may have created copyright or trademark issues. If the seller is able to fix the problem and relist the item, we hope you'll consider buying it. For privacy reasons, we're not able to give more specific details
  3. Here's another one!!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wheatstone-Lachenal-English-Concertina-/160952366345?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2579823509 And another straight after www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wheatstone-Lachenal-English-Concertina-/160952366345?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2579823509 That's odd, I've copied and pasted them separately, but the same info has come up. I reckon that proves it!
  4. On ebay, robsbits do different sizes of bone which look suitable for buttons. Some are already turned into rods of various thicknesses and some are flat, wider pieces which could be cut up and then finished. Search for guitar bone nuts and you will find the company easily and can go to their shop.
  5. Hello all! A bit of festive fun with a concertina player can be seen in "The Snowman and the Snowdog" shown last night on TV. You'll have to watch it, I'm not spilling the beans for those who haven't seen it. It can now be seen on channel4.com/snowman - don't go away for a coffee (or whatever!) or you'll miss it! For me it's heaven, with lots of snow (obviously!) and skiing as well! Happy Christmas to you all!!!
  6. Chris, thanks. Also, I don't have an "e". I was born just before the other one!
  7. Chris, Not I! As Geoff said if it is meant to be.... I was trying to bid, but always use my husband's computer as my laptop doesn't reliably have enough internet signal. For some reason it logged me off as I had left the page up with the countdown going and I didn't realise, so when I put my bid in I didn't have enough time to get back to the page and bid. The perils of sniping! I was putting in a bid of more than £380, so who knows what might have been. Whoever has it will have quite a lot to do by the sound of it! I have made arrangement to have the 55key extended range (in C) Lachenal that was on recently, so that will do me pretty well I think.
  8. I'd like our guest house sale to go through quickly without any hitches so that I have more time in semi-retirement to learn my concertina and get on more with my recorders.
  9. Geoff, I don't suspect it! It was just a wild idea! And yes, I might have a go, but I suspect a certain Chris Algar might go for it too!
  10. I have had a listen on the phone to the 58 key. It sounds like a cats chorus! I couldn't really get a real note reading from it on the C or G key, but I did get F approx on the F or F sharp, but subject to variation! So my general conclusion is it MIGHT be in C, but I wouldn't bet on it! The seller was very helpful with it all. Suggest that the keys have been moved to accommodate someone with small hands??
  11. To get back on topic!!! (maybe we should have started a new thread) the 46 key is reduced to £1950.
  12. Dirge, I think the plates are just to prevent excessive wear, or to cover it to prevent it getting worse. If the end frames are only ebonised the wood would show through with wear and also the hand rests which could also just be ebonised. This would be over to my Brian to restain if necessary and to fill the resulting screw holes. If any veneer is missing he can fix that too.
  13. Geoff, thanks for the idea of the phone, I'll try it, Failing that I have a very musical daughter working at Eastleigh which isn't a million miles away, so I could get her to see it. She doesn't know anything about 'tinas, but will quickly find out what key it's in, also whether it needs retuning.
  14. Geoff, you may be missing something, or I might be! Gaskin shows 57 key Aeolas and standard charts for 55 and 57 keys(and on upwards) and the layout of the 1884 patent is for 56 keys. I haven't seen a Wheatstone printed chart. This box is 57 + 1. I must look at the ledgers for the types he made, but there is one missing for the decade this one was made, so I'll look either side of it in a bit. Having the buttons moved bit sounds feasible for the easier playing of D/Eb, I've come cross that one myself in my learnings recently, it's a hop unless you change fingering.(I'm a bit reluctant to do that at present as I'm not secure on where the buttons are at present.) Sorry all, I started this last night but couldn't finish it, so I did it before reading anything else!
  15. Ive been looking at Bob Gaskin's charts and there is a 1910(I think, without getting it back up) Aeola 57 key that fits with it starting on C, but without the sideways bend of the E flats, Haven't looked into the B flats. What about the 33rd key on the R!!!? Also the general standard charts are the same.
  16. Geoff, I have seen the filled in hole and couldn't come to any conclusion about it. The key to the right of it should be E flat on a normal 57 key layout, with the middle C shown as above the filled hole. I have looked at charts on Concertina Library. Quite what key 58 is goodness only knows! On a 55 key the E flat is on the third finger row, not the second. I feel that this may start on middle C, but since specials were made, who knows? Is it possible that the extra hole, (filled) was a "bells and whistle" button now gone?
  17. Made a mistake, he isn't an instrument dealer and says he doesn't know what key it's in. Anyone any ideas on this?
  18. Thanks Geoff, It does look like a 6.5" across box, very similar to my 55 key Lachenal, it lso has an extra key on the R so it's 58 keys, not 57. There are 6 keys on the second from R (Pinkie) column and an extra reed, screwed in across the radial line on the reed pan. I had assumed 57(or whatever) key box would start at C, maybe I should check. The seller does seem to be an instrument dealer so might be able to find out. Typo edited.
  19. The aforementioned dog bones are actually cow long bones. The dogs chew them. They have to be boiled and sterilised for sale and are much better than buying the raw item from a butcher! The dogs prefer the raw ones, but as has been said, they soon pong and the prepared ones are human friendly! If the buttons are turned they can be made with the tops rounded off and polished whilst still on the lathe, makes that job easier than trying to do it after taking them off.
  20. David,I think you have the right idea! About 4 in 5 words original, the others changed as appropriate. Music from Mikado, Ruddigore, Pirates, etc. 17 songs from 8 operas. "Policeman's lot" became "chippy's lot is a happy one", sung by Joseph and the sheep singing "Tarantabaa". All in all a most entertaining adult nativity! The youngsters that came enjoyed it too. Hilarious in parts and serious in parts. Happy Christmas everyone!
  21. I was considering making a punt on this one. Is it definately a Maccann?
  22. BTW you can't tell who he/she is as they hack into another ebay member's site.
  23. Not just the 'tinas. Several expensive musical instruments on offer on the "shop banner" at the bottom of the page. I haven't got time to report them now as I'm off to a "concert" in a few minutes. Local production of the Nativity .....to Gilbert and Sullivan!!! Should be good! I'll report the stuff when I get back. The more of us that do this the quicker ebay seem to act. This person seem to specialise in this , I reported a similar sale at the time of the last scam.
