Concertina Icon (@met_Musical)

Just noticed that @met_musical twitter account have an English concertina as their icon. It is interesting they chose concertina among many other unique instruments.

 

About free reed instruments, they tweets Wheatstone Duett and Melophone.(and more, maybe.)

 

Facebook also has similar group The Met: Musical Instruments (same icon).

I'm guessing they chose it in part because it fits nicely into a square and fills up the space. Harpsichords are too leggy and most stringed instruments are too long. That squat concertina with its intricate end designs and bellows papers is perfect!

For anybody wondering, this is the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art we’re talking about. I’ve been there many times and seen their extensive musical instrument collection, including concertinas.
