  1. you are welcome here, as soon as you are second in the row 😉
  2. I just recently missed a chance to buy one on thesession.org and in retrospect I regret it. I I tried one (briefly) in the meantime and few friends recommend it (highly :-)). Probably a long shot but if you have one and are willing to part with it, let me please know. Or if you have Suttner waiting list slot you are not going to use and would like to sell. Thanks, T.
  3. It has arrived yesterday, it was quite a journey (read down the post if you like). Here are some informations as few were interested. It is Bb/F old pitch as some of you have guessed. Both notes which should be A (on Bb/F, so would be Bs on C/G) sound A=453Hz, so I guess, as it is a bit out of tune, it was probably 452Hz when new which was common those days. Some touch tuning is needed, but is actually not that bad and playable. Two of the reeds are little rusty, but the rest is nice and clean. Some of the springs will need replacing as some of the buttons won't return (quickly) when released. It works, but I plan to replace pads as well, as even though there are no ghosts notes, it is not 100% air-tight. I have attached two pictures of the layout, both as if it was C/G for better understanding (yours and mine, when transcribing) transpose two semitones down (and one quarter tone up) to see what it really is 🙂. I have used the abc standard, but tweaked it in the descriptions to readable sharps and flats (for the notation generated I had to use abc syntax). It was a bit of a puzzle, but I think I have all the notes in right octaves (some of which are surprising). I have marked common layout green, one note odd yellow and odd button orange in the excel sheet screenshot. I think the inner row was not standardised, so it is all orange :-). Surprising is 5th button LH G row, which is Low D drone instead of Low B/A and 4th button LH acc. row, which is Low A drone instead of Low A/Bb. LH thumb button is Low Bb (in C/G terminology), which I don't see much use for. Because of those and some similar arrangements on RH it is fully chromatic from C, to c'' (I have to admit I couldn't toy with those highest notes much, as our dog started to howl), spanning 4 octaves. First layout impressions: *I find the Low A drone handy and usable and probably can adapt to not having Low A on the pull where I am used to in G row) *The Low D drone seems usable for extending the range of the instrument, even surprisingly handy to play scales/tunes, though I didn't play much yet to confirm. On the other hand I don't see it that usable for drone, as you need your pinky for other important D major notes (F# mainly, D on the push is playable in the C row) or other Low notes in some of the tunes. Hence I will try to move the Low D drone to thumb button *push Low B in the inner row feels usable *the very high notes will require practice, even though I am used to play tunes in higher octave up to g' going above that seems tricky (at first?), highest accidentals will be probably even trickier Story of ebay auction to delivery: I have decided to bid, but found out delivery is only to US addresses and the seller had the ebay messaging off (at least for buyers outside US(?)). I was out with kids that afternoon, found out how to register delivery box on Planet Express on the phone, did that when I had arrived home. Won the auction. Had it delivered to Oregon Planet Express and started wondering who of friends might be traveling US to Czech republic in these pandemic days. Surprisingly father of my wife's pupil was in US (as she found out when the first grader boasted about that during the morning circle) planning to come back in 4weeks time. Found out where he is staying, package travelled again, this time Oregon to Florida hotel (fortunately the seller packed very carefully). I have to say I am normally very reasonable and need good reasons for everything, but this just felt right all the way through and only time I was nervous, was when filling in the form on Planet Express to have it sent to Florida and even then just because it was new to me, not that I was afraid. 4. This concertina is now sold. ******** Selling this beautiful bubinga wooden ended C/G Edgley with accordion reeds. I got it new from Frank at the beginning of 2012. I played it for a while and then sold it to a friend, when I got my Jeffries. It is now for sale, as friend’s interests changed to different kind of music. During the time with the friend it has suffered a drop (kids…) and left-hand end-grill was damaged and re-glued as you can see in the pictures. It is stable though and doesn’t affect the playing. The sound is very sweet, though obviously not as powerful as Jeffries, but it still holds its own in a session. The response is really quick, better than the older instruments that I posses. Wheatstone layout. Selling for EUR1600 + postage, no case. Will be sent from Czech republic, so no taxes/customs in Europe. Will post a recording soon. Pictures here.
  5. do you have any pictures of the instrument?
  6. I'm aware of it, though am looking for "with at least 30keys" as mentioned in my first post
  7. Thanks for heads-up, my main instrument is Jeffries, so am thinking of similar "end" (Jeffries, pre-ww2 Wheatstone, Suttner, Dipper etc.), though Lachenal would do for baritone. I will keep an eye on this one, but will wait what else comes up for sale. I hope there are some people who wanted to try lower sounding instrument, but decided to stick with C/G then.
  8. Hello, I am big fan of Cormac’s playing and am looking for lower pitched anglo. I have just missed the opportunity to buy an Ab/Eb :-(, which would be great for playing in Bb and Eb (playing D tunes with G fingering -> octave down) and would go well with the flute in respective key. I might be interested in G/D or baritone C/G too, which will be more suited for common session playing in D. Please PM me if there is any instrument you might have for sale (though I only can afford one). Looking for an instrument with concertina reeds, with at least 30keys. Thanks, Tomas
  9. we’ve agreed not to share the price, but yes, it was not 6K, that won’t be reasonable ?
  10. So, we have finally met, the guy is real ?as well as the concertina. It is 38key Bb/F in old pitch, not much playable now - missing handstraps, out of tune, some a bit rusty reeds, cracked action board on RH (few ghosty notes at a time) and other leaks (pads, valves need to be replaced). Those notes on LH (without crack) sound promising, difficult to judge RH. I have bought it to bring it to playing condition, though it will take some time and money, will post pictures and recording when the project is completed.
  11. Yes, I will meet with the seller (hopefully next week) and will post some update here on the forum. I own Jeffries, which I've bought through this forum from Paul Read and which has been restored by Colin Dipper, so I believe I am able to judge the condition, playability and estimate the overhaul price. Surprisingly I can still read cyrillic (learned before Velvet revolution in 1989) and even though Ukrainian is different language, I understand enough to trust the seller is genuine.
  12. PM sent, I am from Czech republic and can meet in person in Prague
  13. just wait, John is very busy, but will surely reply (my experience)
  14. I use pair of these (actually there is "A" in the model type, can't find link to it in english) and am quite happy with the sound. http://www.yoga.com.tw/en/2-2000-39706/product/Instrument-microphone-EM-712-id222319.html
  15. maybe I am suspicious, but is it genuine? the stamp looks different compared to for example: http://www.concertina.net/forums/uploads/monthly_07_2013/post-6213-0-56174700-1373514524.jpg as well as from what I remember the Praed street addresses used where 102, 23 and 11 and the tuning should be either F/C or F#/C#
  16. bump, lowered price to £1900
  17. Bump, open to sensible offers. Last Connor here went for £1,750 and that was Lachenal reeded. Mine is with John Connor's reeds which is more expensive when new and this one is like new :-) My wife got recently interested in melodeon, so adding one row four stop as trade in option.
  18. I bought this instrument last year hoping my wife or some of the kids might learn it, but none of them did. I have Jeffries for my own playing, so this should go to a home, where will be played. I am looking for £2100 + shipping from Czech republic. It is few years old, but still feels like new to me. Jeffries layout and C/F (pull/push) on left thumb. I discussed this instrument with John Connor himself and from the better end grills and gold tooled bellows this is his Jeffries copy. No need to mention, this one has traditional reeds. Few pictures and video being played here, I can post more or play it for you over Skype if you like. I might consider left-handed keyed flute as a trade-in. https://youtu.be/FRwDiL5HIhg
  19. From pictures I guess the one that went today was in better condition. But agree with 38 buttons might add to value, as well as the period - "C.Jeffries maker" period seems to be better than "Praed street". Knowing the key of the instrument and state of the reeds will be crucial, otherwise it is a lottery for a big sum.
