You have blown your cover and will now be recognised worldwide. If I wear that skirt I will. Its hand made one of a kind...I sewed it myself.

Multi Instrumentalists Among Our Ranks
LDT replied to Lawrence Reeves's topic in General Concertina Discussion
I wouldn't count my voice as I can make a noise that's an approximation of singing doesn't mean I'm a singer...in the same way just coz I have ability to run doesn't mean I'm gonna enter 100m sprint. Recorder - badly- at infants school. Keyboard - if you count occasionally being allowed in lessons at senior school to press some keys. Guitar/Bass Guitar - gave up because I really didn't get on with it Penny whistle/harmonica - gave up after 2 days as it made me dizzy Anglo Concertina - 2008-today Melodeon 2009 - today Fiddle - 2010- today I would say though main instrument is melodeon, with concertina coming second and fiddle third. -
First Tunes For Anglo Beginners?
LDT replied to Jody Kruskal's topic in General Concertina Discussion
I kinda half learned a lot of tunes at the beginning. Only one I 'mastered' (i.e managed to play without the dots eventually) was bobbie shaftoe. -
Thought I'd add to this thread. Just started to go to swing jive (charleston, lindy hop, balboa etc.) classes. (Only been to 2 lesons?!?) Thought it might be fun to learn to play something I can dance to. But I can't find any dots for any tunes I know online for free. Is there anything you would suggest as 'easy' enough?

It's not white hair...its platinum blonde. As for sessions. I can't play by ear in a session on the concertina. Mainly because I can't hear myself...so I could be playing all the wrong notes or the right ones and wouldn't know. (Melodeon at least I have a chance of hearing myself. So I'll nervously give it a try.) But my usual way is I memorize tunes from the dots...which takes me weeks and months (I do actually 'see' the music in my minds eye). lI have heard of this before "Dot Memory" ,can you use it like a busker book and add notes to enhance it or are you restricted to the dots as written ? It is rather a shame to go down this route as "By ear" players, once they know the tune can play along. It may be worth trying this out with simple tunes and try and progress. Al Depends what you mean. Even with music in front of me I only use it to tell me for example to play an 'A', how I play it is determined by what I hear (so if someone goes diddle Dee instead of Deeee then I can do that..although it might be more like a did*errrk*dee if it goes past to flippin fast) as I can't 'read' the dots properly.

Developing A Mentorship for Young Men & Women
LDT replied to StephenTx's topic in General Concertina Discussion
Not sure if I count as young...but I'm under 30 and play the anglo. Although its an instrument I tend to play solo at home. As I find it hard to hear myself enough to play in a group. Plus I have a tendency to choose different tunes and keys to everyone else. I think I've been suitably encouraged by those I meet at workshops, festivals sessions etc. I'm not a member of the ICA as its not really appealed to me before. -
Here is my attempt at a little duet. Me & Me on concertina and melodeon.

I've said this before, but it's not so bad. Put your order in now, Colin & Rosalie will ask for a deposit, something like £250 or of that order. Then you go back to dreaming. Suddenly, our of the blue a few years later you'll get a phone call or letter from Colin and hey presto! you're one of the great winners in the lottery of life. You'll have saved the money by then (or if not, I'm sure there's a relative you wouldn't mind selling into slavery) and you'll own your dream concertina. But you have to start by putting that order in ... Unless a relative wins the lottery and buys it for me as a present...I may order it but I'll never have the money to buy it. How much dos a kidney fetch these days? Were they the ones you had at ECMW?
-
I'd like a Dipper anglo concertina with metal ends...in D/G. I'd never get to own one in a million years...but hey I can dream.
-
If money was no object...what would be your ideal/dream concertina?

I'd really like to get a G/D concertina...I suspect it would supercede my C/G quite quickly. But its just finding one at the right price.

As the chap seems to be a sailor what about: A squeeze tune in every port...

I've noticed (with anglo players) there seems to be two different 'postures'. The bent over, elbows sticking out posture. The sitting up straight, concertina held as far away as possible posture. (and several degrees in between) So why did you come to use that 'posture', what are the advantages dis-advantages? I think I err towards ear as near to concertina as I can get as I try to hear myself.

Thanks for the nice comments. Glad you enjoyed it.

And the rest of the publication looks interesting too. Yes some interesting articles. Some acidentially amusing.

I was looking for a pattern for a kind of shawl called a 'sontag' anyway stumbled upon this periodical from the victorian era. And noticed it had sheet music contained within. http://books.google.com/books?id=iYBMAAAAMAAJ&dq=%22sontag%20woolen%20habit-shirt%22&lr&num=100&as_brr=1&pg=PA362-IA10#v=onepage&q&f=false Thought you might find it useful or interesting. It looks a bit complicated to me but I thought as you are all smarter it might appeal to you.
