  1. Was this a 28 buttons? Seems to have only 4 button holes on each accidental row.
  2. Yeah this debate is total nonsense. No one said anything when some other seller sold a Suttner for 5500 euros *right after* he received it from Suttner. Now, that would be a good definition of 'profiteering". Someone trying to sell an Edgley the same price he's paid for it, and maybe even saving import duty taxes and shipping in the process? This is darn weird.
  3. What you're saying makes total sense. Please let me know if you're selling a Dipper, Suttner or some old Jeffries. You'd sell a 38 buttons Suttner for about 4000 euros, still a bit expensive, but fair I think. PS: I havent seen you complain for that Dipper that went for US$9500, I'm not sure why you're complaning now...
  4. Could someone tell me what those buttons are? I am guessing on the right, the F#/G and A/B on the G row, the B/C on the C row and the C# button, and the first few buttons (starting from index finger) on the C and G row on the left side... but I'd be curious to know what they exactly are. (I understand completely they are only 'default' buttons and other buttons can be used)
  5. Hey Autumn, Are you now looking to buy an Edgley? Jeremy doesnt seem to come on this board much, so don't expect an answer from him, but I will let you know when/if an Edgley becomes available... I'll see if I can contact Jeremy meanwhile.
  6. Thanks, this is what I was looking for... I'm starting to get it now :-)
  7. Well, there must be something I'm not getting here. Some obvious background information everyone knows about but me. It is being said that Herrington and Edgley said thr 24 buttons is the best thing ever for irish music, and I can't find any reference to this, even on the websites. So yeah, it would be a fair question, only if backed up by some extra information. Peter, if I started a thread saying "Geoff Woof says scottish pipes are better for irish music, is he being silly" would not you agree it would be good form to actually explain how I came to this information? I'm just asking again, where is the 24 buttons being advertised as such? I don't think it's so hard to answer, yet I'm getting no answer on that.
  8. Out of curiosity I had a look at the Herrington's website but could not find any reference to the 24 buttons model, only the 30 buttons. Also, does Edgley make 24 buttosn models? Why did you bring up Edgley?
  9. Well, let's start with the basics. Who said the 24 buttons design was "such a great design for irish music" ? I really doubt Frank Edgley came up with these exact words... So maybe if you add some substance to your post, you can get an answer with substance... PS: By the way it's never a good idea to start insulting makers the way you imply on your third post. As for who's being silly...
  10. Colin told me 55%, but I'm sure between 45% and 60% it's OK. It just struck me that I live in a semi-basement and I could expect more humidity, maybe it's a good thing when it comes to winters, and maybe air conditionned once in a while at summer time would keep humidity level lower. I definitely need a hygrometer.
  11. I am soon getting my Dipper (crossing each day on the calendar as they pass) and I've been told the ideal humidity level for the instrument would be 55%. My appartment is small, like 600 square foot, so humidifying the whole place, with a humidifier with electronic hygrometer, would be possible. Is there a good way, maybe using some electronic device I don't know about, to keep the humidity level at a precise percentage *inside* the hard case? I know about some thingies you can put in cases for example for wooden flutes but you can't quite control the exact humidity level. It doesnt make much sense but who knows. Too much humidity can cause rust. So that's it, I'm wondering about what are my options. Thanks!
  12. I guess it depends on what Jeffries you've tried before. I was lucky (or doomed) to try one very, very good Jeffries a few weeks ago and believe me, it was worth it's full price. But I salute people who buy 10 000$ instruments without even trying them, it takes lots of nerves...
  13. Another interesting factor is when you look at prices for new Dippers, Suttners, new Wheatstones, etc... They sell for around 4500 euros, and for the amount of time the makers spend on the instruments + expenses, it's clearly not such a hefty price. Based on this, 7 000 euros for a vintage concertina doesnt seem that high.
  14. Yeah 8500$, must have been a heck of a surprise for the seller! I'm very curious about how the buyer will turn this purchase into a profit, but knowing his experience trading these instruments, he'll certainly find a way.
  15. Wireless connections breaking is more a router problem than Skype. I find cheap routers usually can't handle heavy bandwidth very well. I got myself a Netgear wireless router recently and it's working like a charm, full speed with many simulteanous connections.
  16. Congratz Ed and it seems that it shows there's still good potential on vintage concertina sales...
  17. There's also the possibility of a last second 'snipe' at 9500$, who knows...
  18. What is a "full custom instrument"? And in what sense were you saved? Saved because you didn't have to buy other concertinas (because yours was wonderful?) Or, were you saved in the sense that when your world was falling apart, playing your concertina made things right? Yvonne A third option: because he can't or won't play a non-custom instrument because the keys/notes are too different, he's "stuck" with his instrument and at the same time it's a blessing because he can't get too impulsive by buying a Jeffries for exemple.
  19. Ah, thanks, yeah that's it, composed by Junior Crehan. She plays a bit of a different setting than I do, she stays low at the beginning, I learned with the high C and D, not sure what the original version contains.
  20. Non-stop rain in Ireland? You've got to be kidding! ;-) Lucky you, it must have been a great festival.
  21. Yeah well I'm feeling the heat of the economic downturn from a different source: my darn risky investments in what I thought were cheap, cheap stocks plumetted 70%. They might go up again, but it will take months, if not years, so basically access to my investments are frozen at the moment. That, on top of my mortgage... leaves me no option to buy the concertina. The other factor is that a beloved 34 buttons Dipper is coming soon, very soon, and at this point the Dipper is all I want, it's my absolute prize.
  22. Yeah, now I got the "Buy now" button printed in my brain. I think it will haunt my dreams and nightmares. Thanks Ed!
  23. Don't forget guys, it's about the look of the boat, it's about the motion of the ocean ;-)
  24. Yeah I, too, think it's amazing playing but I prefer the tune slower. I just saw the clip of Edel Fox playing Return to Miltown, one of my favorite tune, and I'm blow away. She seems to be having a problem with a sticky button a the beginning though, unless I'm mistaken. But heck that girl can throw punches :-)
