  1. I bought a pair of black leather work gloves from my local Army, Navy store. The leather is fairly thin and easy to work with. Cut strips about 3 inches long and a bit wider than twice the width of the thumb strap. Wrapped it around the thumb strap with the free ends facing the tips of my thumbs and then sewed them together. A needle nose pliers or surgical needle holder is helpful. Best regards, Gerry
  2. This is good news indeed. Thanks to all involved in making Boris' manuscripts more available. Gerry Bogaard
  3. In the Wheatstone ledger description of number 30358, (for sale here https://www.eastbour...t-317/?action=4) is written "best labels". What does this signify? I think this has been discussed before but a forum search was unproductive. Thanks, Gerry
  4. Elsewhere Jim Lucas wrote: " I wonder how many of Boris' former students are here on concertina.net." I'm one. Bought my first concertina from Boris also. I only had time for a few lessons but enjoyed them tremendously. Gerry Bogaard
  5. Inside my Aeola is stamped "Harold Mellor 109 Taunton Road Limehurst Ashton-Under-Lyne" A google search was unrewarding. Would anyone have any recollection of this gentleman? Thanks Gerry Bogaard
  6. I was able to get EasyABC running but seem unable to save the page to the document or music folder. Am attempting to create folders where I can easily access multiple jigs in midi versions in one folder and then another folder of polka midis, etc., etc. Can this be done with EasyABC? Or with any other abc converter to midi? As mentioned Barfly and the newer macs don't like each other. Will try Skink later today. Thanks for the suggestions, Gerry
  7. For years I've used the Tune-0-Tron in my Dell PC with a program called MidiNotate. It was easy to use, you could visualize the score as it sounded, and easily change keys among other features. It was helpful for me in learning new tunes and in adapting tunes to the concertina. The Dell PC died, got an Apple Macbook, can not use MidiNotate with the Apple operating system......well I can if I put Windows on the Apple but I am not keen on that option. What are those of you with Apple operating systems using with the Tune-O-Tron (or perhaps something else) for ABC conversions where you are able to hear and see the notes simultaneously? Thanks for any and all help. Gerry
  8. This instrument has just been sold and is going to a wonderful new home. Gerry
  9. This is a tenor treble Holmwood concertina I am offering for sale at $1200. I've had it for approximately 24 years and am the original owner. The kind folks at THE BUTTON BOX have recommeded a new bellows to improve its playing quality as well as to "shim the bellows frame gaskets, level the buttons, replace some valves and touch up the tuning and voicing". I have external photographs I can email separately. I am located in Saratoga County New York State and can be reached at gbogaar1@nycap.rr.com or phone at 518-373-8973. Doug at THE BUTTON BOX can be reached at 413-665-7793. Concertina Connection's website lists a new 8 sided bellows for $720. I'm thinning the herd. Had five, now four, would like to get down to three. Last time I thinned the herd it literally was a herd...horses that is. All went to wonderful new homes and I hope the same for this instrument that has given me much joy over the years. Best regards, Gerry Bogaard
  10. I solved this problem by cutting a piece of a black leather glove to fit around the entire thumbstrap and sewing the ends together. This decreased the size of the hole my thumb had to fit in. Make sure the leather is soft enough to bend around the curve of the thumbstrap and also that it feels comfortable on your thumb. Gerard
  11. http://www.marx-brothers.org/whyaduck/sounds/midi.htm If you haven't already found the above link, it has a multi track midi version. Not specifically a concertina arrangement but hopefully it may be of some help. Gerry
  12. David: Thanks for your help. Learning from examples you and Laitch supplied I am now able to choose between TWO methods of taking care of the original problem I was having with ABC notation. Best regards, Gerry
