  2. leg 5 which I will post tomorrow includes the concertinas trip to the NE Squeeze in. Bob
  3. ok, back to the tour. After completing the first leg of the tour, I called the touring concertina off the road for an evaluation of the instrument and the log book. After reading the comments, I decided to reset all the reeds to cut down the volume and to improve reed response at low volumes. To gain a little objectivity, I removed the old log book and replaced it with a new one. The idea is to compare the general comments with the first log to see if my efforts at manipulating the tone, timbre and action of the concertina are reflected in the notes from the "tourists" I think you will note the difference as well as I. http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan1.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan2.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan3.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan4.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan5.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan6.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan7.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan8.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan9.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan10.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan11.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan12.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/leg2scan13.jpg
  4. mercy, it's a long way from home. I certainly hope it is behaving well. Bob
  5. ok, now I am logged in as Bob Tedrow what do you suppose is up with that? Bob
  6. A little viewing question here: Please let me know if the files are readable. On my computer, the files appear in windows explorer along with a little box in the lower RH corner of the image that allows me to zoom in on the image. Does everyone else's web browser work that way? Bob
  7. Here are links to the first log of the Tedrow Concertina Tour 2003. The Tour was divided into several legs, which allowed me to make a few changes in the instrument during the tour. These are the comments and suggestions I used in designing the 2004 concertina line. These are unedited comments in their entirety. http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0001.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0002.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0003.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0004.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0005.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0006.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0007.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0008.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0009.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0010.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0011.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0012.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0013.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0014.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0015.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0016.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0017.jpg http://hmi.homewood.net/log2003/scan0018.jpg scroll down a few messages for leg#2 of the Concertina Tour Bob Tedrow
  8. I am slowly scanning all the notes from the 2003 tour. I will post them pretty soon. I am rejigging for 2004 instruments. Get ready for the Red Touring Concertina Auction. Bob Tedrow
  9. I play a D/A concertina with a "baritone" A row. I built ten of them a few years back, they are scattered about the country. My first concertina was a d/a bastari with a factory "baritone" a row. At the time (80's) I had never met another player and assumed all concertinas were set up similary. Bob
  10. I will be in Atlanta tomorrow, Sunday. I am taking my daughter to the Carl Drake Irish dance studio for a private step dance lesson. We will be there around 1pm. Klari and I will be there with concertinas. Atlanta area concertina players should drop everything and be there as well. Bob and Klari Tedrow

  12. Alex, has been playing for about a year. I would point out that she has certainly heard more than her share of instrumental music in her eleven years of life. My ten year old concertinist daughter Alex and I onstage last year at a local event. http://hmi.homewood.net/video/BobnAlex.rm
  13. No, that was the only one. It does not appear to be laminated as the fissure is pretty jagged. I braized it and put it back into service. Bob
  14. Apparently, there are adult music competitions for adults in manyof the Feis. The overall music trophy winner at the NOLA Feis was an adult harp player from Texas. We will be at a Feis in Memphis next, it looks like the music competition is on Friday night. They have a tin whistle category and a fiddle category. Concertina is held under the "other" category along with the cow chip toss. Bob Tedrow
  15. The competition was hair raising for me, Alex was pretty calm about the whole thing. Come to think of it, she is pretty darn calm about her schoolwork as well. Hmm. She played Harvest Home because she knows it well and can usually nail it. However, I usually play with her and that is apparently not in the rules in N.O. So, she started off out of the gate at the speed of light, just like I said not to do. I just knew when she hit the triplets she would slide off the road, crash and burn. But, she got her speed under control and did a pretty good job, not the best. I think the judges, one of whom was from across the pond were surprized to see a concertina player much less a short one with a school dance dress on and the biggest darn wig I have ever seen. There were four competitors in the 16and under catagory, so I am pretty tickled with her performance.
  16. I thought you might like to see this. I have never seen a failure like it before. The problem displayed with a slow sluggish lever. The brass lever has split down the middle, causing the lever to drag at the fulcrum. http://hmi.homewood.net/image/lever.jpg Bob Tedrow
  17. My daughter Alexandra place first in 16 and under music competition at the New Orleans Feis this weekend. Daddy Tedrow
  18. The dancers must register beforehand, but anyone else can observe. Coming? Bob
  19. I will be in New Orleans this weekend at a Feis. Any list members from NOLA? Bob Tedrow
  20. No, it's intentional. Several years ago, before I started building my own instruments, I sold several instruments built by my friend Andrew Norman. Though I do not stock his very finely made instruments, I am pleased to provide referals to him. Bob Tedrow
  21. Thanks for the compliment, but be assured I would not post all the comments and reviews if they were not typically good. Bob
  22. As 2003 draws to a close, so does the 2003 Concertina Tour. I will be pulling the red tour concertina off the tour this week. As for those of you on the tour who have not had the concertina yet, do not despair, as I will be replacing the 2003 concertina with a 2004 model, an instrument with several updates and changes that reflect current instruments off the bench. Probably not quite as "red" as the last concertina. My thanks to the participants so far. I will be posting scanned and unedited comments from the 2003 tour beginning after the first of the year. Happy New Year from Bob Tedrow

  24. I found Carollan's Concerto a bit of a challenge as there is no place in the entire song to stop and tell a joke.
