By placing a mirror close to one hand, I have filmed both hands playing simultaneously (albeit one is mirror image). Is this easier to watch than a front view where the angle on both hands is a compromise? I don't play anglo so it's all a mystery to me but if Danny Chapman was to make a similar video playing an English I think it would make more sense from the lower angle. Nice playing by the way. It's a nice idea and addresses a problem that I have been aware of watching all the youtube concertina videos these last few months, ie., that you can't see what both (or either of the) hands are doing. But I find the fact that now they both look like right hands a bit disorienting. I would encourage experimenting with a 2nd mirror to re-invert the image of the left hand so that the right hand is seen directly and the left hand is seen through two successive mirrors. Hi David, Thanks for your comment and observation. My first thought was "Oh bugger, more expense!". My second thought was that the laws of physics would make this very difficult to achieve. The mirror by the left hand would need to be at a 45 degree angle, with the second mirror directly above (both approximate angles to demonstrate the point). Then there's the problem with the correct camera angle (below the player) to capture both images. Whilst all of this is technically possible (as far as my mind will reason), I've calculated that the mirror/mirror image would appear about four times further away compared with the direct image (i.e. although the second hand would appear "correct" in terms or orientation, the image would be tiny). The top is still the top and the inside, middle and outside rows are not reversed. I thought the lower angle was the best but for the glare from the window and the poorer light levels on the left side. Is it any improvement over the close up view? He just needs to teach to two of them to play, have them play in unison while standing back to back. This way we can see the fingerings as they play. See what having such a sharp hat can do for you.
