Noel Ways
This lady is talented and does a nice job weaving Christmas tunes into her playing towards the end. Does anyone know who she is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JkbJe70jBs Merry Christmas !
Bubo
I have no idea. But beautiful music and a lovely video. Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas!
Jim Burke
Both of these tunes are Christmas related. The second, in an obvious way, and the first not so much: The tune sometimes goes by other names, but it is often called "Christmas Eve." The concertina player is Brenda Castles. She is currently touring the Eastern US, and this summer she taught concertina at Catskills Irish Arts Week. She is a great player, and her first CD is a thing of beauty. If you like this clip, you'll love the CD, "Indeedin You Needn't Bother." You can get it on Itunes among other places. jwinship
And although she's playing "Deck the Halls" as a reel, when it's played as a hornpipe or set dance it's called "The Piper in the Meadow Straying". That's good playing by Brenda Castles! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZfnk9w1PTE
hjcjones
The "Deck the Halls" tune is Welsh, 'Nos Galan', first published in 1794 although it is probably older.
Noel Ways
Thanks for all this input: so much more that meets the eye! Thank you Jim for pointing out the CD. I sampled it, and I agree, it is a thing of beauty. I ordered the CD.
