Early Plastic/celluloid Veneer.

Recommended Posts

I have a German concertina by Meinel und Herold manufactured in 1935. It is in mint condition in its original wrapping.

It has a very high quality walnut burl veneer; but I think that it must be some sort of plastic. Too good to be true. When was the first plastic wood veneer substitute used industrially?

I have no information re the point of introducing this kind of veneer, but here's a current example of "burl" celluloid as applied by the maker "Weltmeister":

Hope this helps
