  1. Thanks Dowright, much appreciated!
  2. Just my couple of cents I think you can get easier playing hydbrid instrument a bit cheaper than the vintage one with the same playability and then you can decide whether you like it or not. If you do, then you can search for higher end vintage instrument. I went this road with Frank Edgley model and I'm glad I did that. The sound could be a bit different from vintage concertina, but it's quite pleasant to my ear. And you also have to know that vintage instruments also could sound different to each other. BTW, the instrument you gave link to is already sold, I've thought about trying it myself.
  3. Hi Dowright, thanks a lot for the info! Do you have any pics of these New Models? I still have no idea how're they look like
  4. Hi I've already used this forum quite succesfully once, so now I need help again, let's see if it will be the same this time. I'm looking for one of these Lachenal anglos with inserted into ebony metal ends. I have the small size 26 buttons one, and I like it so much i decided to get myself 30+ buttons. You can see what I'm talking about on these pictures I don't want to buy full size (6 1/4''), something around 5 3/4 - 5 7/8 will be perfect. To give you an idea of what I'd like to buy - here's the one I've just missed http://www.irishmusik.com/lachenal-anglo-concertina So if you have one of those you're thinking of selling or if you know somebody who has one, please let me know. In fact, i'd be glad to hear from you even if you just have one and not going to sell it, just to share the info
  5. Thanks, Stephen, Still not clear enough - it's said that newly improved model should have ends with rosewood, while mine has black ones (probably ebony). To your question - the size of my concertina is about 5.3'' across the flats Do you have any pics (or links to pics) of the New Model Anglo?
  6. Hi everyone, I recently acquired nice Lachenal anglo concertina and I'd like to know more about similar concertinas. Mine is small one with metal ends inserted into ebony, 26 metal (probably silver) keys, C/G, and plays quite nice. I've tried to find similar concertinas on a web, but there're not a lot of those. Mine looks similar to this one (but with metal buttons instead of bone). So do you know are there special name for those Lachenals? I've checked Lachenal pricelists and there're such a thing as "New Model Anglo" mentioned in 1930 pricelist, but I'm not sure how to differentiate "New Model" from other Lachenal's. I'd also be glad to hear from owners of such a Lachenals and share info. Best, Roman
  7. There're probably bigger experts coming, but these accidental notes layouts could be different. Two main systems I know are Jeffries and Wheatstone, there're also some small modifications. The Wheatstone/Lachenal system is more symmetric and logical, and I think Jeffries is favoured by irish players as more comfortable layout for irish music. I've copied picture from buttonbox.com - http://www.buttonbox.com/morse-ceili.htmlto give you basic idea
  8. Well, I thought I have all CDs with Mark Graham, thanks for that! Do you know where to buy this one?
  9. Hi Do you know if there's some link where I can find different patterns of the gold tooling on a bellows of the concertinas? I see that Jeffries pattern are quite consistent while Lachenals and Wheatstones have more variety. Just to make it little bit more interesting - here's picture of tooling on my small-sized Lachenal
  10. Thanks for the answers, guys Actually I've tried a couple of MOR tunes and it's indeed more or less possible to play even on my lovely 26 buttons Lachenal (a bit simplier to play on 30 buttons Edlgey, of course). So it makes me wonder - do you even need 30 buttons for irish? I do miss A on the left side for push, but I probably could change low C on the C row to this push A (never played this C anyway). Do people retune those buttons on 30 button concertinas? For example this low C - wouldn't it be more useful to tune it, for instance, to push middle F? I can also think of possibility of retuning first button on extra row (Low E/F) - never used this button as well. At the moment it's from theoretical point of view, I'm only playing tunes in common keys, and mostly Irish, so I'd be grateful for any expert opinion on that.
  11. I'm a big fan of Micheal O'Raghallaigh playing, and significant part of his style is playing additional notes/chords/occasional runs as accents. I know that Micheal plays 38b Suttner. And I wonder - do you think it's possible to do what Micheal does without those extra buttons?
  12. Still for sale, will consider all resonable offers
  13. Hi Or Take a look at this guy, he lives not far from me (Utrecht), and we have session every first thursday of the month. He's now playing Marcus concertina if I'm not mistaken, but he played something what looks like Hohner before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYf5mOC4-1Q And he made it sounds quite nice if you ask me Roman
  14. I have it now on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251948770544?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649), but prefer to sell it here
  15. While we are on this topic - do you have a suggestion of case for small size concertina (5.5 inches across the flats)? I just managed to find myself a small 26 buttons Lachenal concertina, it's really nice instrument. I thought about getting a case for carrying mandolin and concertina in one case, but it could be hard to find somebody to make such a case, and it will, probably, be expensive (here's a thread on mandolincase forums). So now I'm thinking about possible options of getting small padded case for this concertina so I can carry it together with my mandolin (or probably even clip it on a mandolin case) Thanks
  16. And, just in case - this one is still for sale, and it's already in Europe - http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=17562
  17. Hi Marien, I've tried to send you a PM, but you can't receive messages, could you send me your email
  18. Hello I have a couple of questions about anglo concertina notes layout. 1. Have you ever used Low C (middle row, first button on the left, push) for Irish/Scottish tunes? 2. Have you ever used D# on left side for Irish/Scottish tunes (probably yes) and how often? I'm thinking about changing D# on the left side to E, so I'll have E on pull (which could be very usefull for Eminor tunes and for chords) Thanks Roman
  19. I also put it on ebay, will consider all resonable offers. This is good opportunity for player in Europe to get a nice instrument.
