  1. Go to this thread and cut and paste the link for the tutor into your address bar. It's at the bottom left side of the psychotherapist's website.... Coincidence?..I don't think so. It's crazy good.
  2. Thanks for the tips. I like digging around antique shops anyway so I think that's where I'll start.
  3. I know you've all seen the listings for concertinas with a locking case and no key. Well, I have a Lachenal with the original case in really good condition and, yep, no key. So, does anybody here know if those old locks used a basic skeleton type key which would fit many different locks, or are there so many different ones that it's going to be impossible to replace? Thanks for any info.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Eldxmi5dpU Both uplifting and depressing at the same time. I'm rarely jealous of little girls, however, I'm sometimes amazed.
  5. is appalling. There should be a law against concertina abuse like this. This is how he's demonstrating the poor thing.
  6. I too would like to welcome you from the outer fringes where the lurkers reside. Be sure to let us know when you find that Jeffries of your grandfather's. We'll be waiting...........patiently............waiting........
  7. Hello Brassett, There's plenty of threads on this forum discussing what type is easier to learn (Anglo / English / Duet, etc) and what type of music they're best suited for. Of course, there are also many differing opinions. Look around, I'm sure you'll see something you like. As for jumping around, I'd learn to crawl with it first. Jumping and dancing while playing tends to give you bellows movement when you may not want it. I suppose with practice, anything can be accomplished. I belong to a pirates club and I've managed to learn to play while walking (although after some partys, I still crawl) But, be that as it may, we pirates don't jump around much, dance yes, however I've never tried playing while dancing so good luck with that. I'd guess most here would suggest sitting in a chair with one end of the instrument resting on your knee for bellows control which is not very piratey... or clown like for that matter. Those guys tend to be all serious and stuff. There's been a lot of discussion on playing for dancers, It'd be interesting to see how many here actually play while dancing. I believe it brings forth a whole new challenge. At any rate, I'm sure you'll find the instrument rewarding and an asset to your character in many ways. Be careful though, those serious guys have a way of making you want to sit down. Don't listen to 'em!
  8. Thanks to all. I've increased my concertina knowledge!
  9. Sorry I missed that thread. I've never heard of either of those brands. Are they worth pursuing?
  10. This is on Ebay. Genuine antique? Patently Victorian? Copy of a Lachenal? Proper concertina made in the traditional way? Proper concertina reeds? Correct concert pitch? Obviously lower end model? New pads, valves and straps? Obviously a lower end model? Not a bad looking box. The hand rests look longer than a Lachenal's. Seller knows all this and doesn't know what make it is. Do You??
  11. Plumb Native I know that I can barely play the tunes I squeeze on every day I'll try something new Buy a didgeridoo And play the Aboriginal way
  12. Technical Difficulty That one reed just didn't sound right So I took my box into the light As I tackled my tuning chore All the buttons and reed frames fell to the floor Reassembly took me all night I QUIT!! Somtimes I just want to quit I'll never be good at this $#!& So I store it away And the very next day I'm practicing lickety split
  13. I warned ye in another post I might do this. Tiny Dancer There once was a young ballerina She liked my old concertina I said "Come over and play Just pick any day I'll be at the city marina." I waited a very long time For ths sweet young thing to be mine It was years till she showed Now she resembles a toad When once she was so sublime Then I thought of a children's story Where a princess was brought back to her glory So I kissed her and then She socked me square on the chin I felt like I'd been hit by a lorry Sometimes fate can be cruel What once was a prescious jewel The dancer named Anne Had turned into a man Her name was now Andy O'tool
  14. I rather enjoyed the limericks string started by LDT. I see it's been over a year since it's been added to. Maybe I'll get into a creative mood and dredge it back up.
  15. Nope! Only Stagis. Of course if you were to paint the ends red and the bellows green, maybe they won't notice as long as you don't play it.

How? She could just go back in time to before you learned her identity, and then she'd be free! Then again, she could wait until after you've collected the ransom and released her, then go back and snatch the ransom just before you get your hands on it, then return to your future, and she'd be both free and rich. Why, I didn't know she was a bloody time traveler! I've tried to invent a time machine meself but the blasted sun goes down before I finish so's me sundial quits workin' an' everybody knows ye have to know when ye start to figure where ye end... at least that's what Jules told me.

Easy, now! Perhaps "Ransom" was a poor choice o' terms. Why, I'd keep 'er to meself before turnin' 'er over to a bloke with a name like Ransom! Sounds downrite dishonest to me!

SOOO! That's what LDT stands for! Now I can track ye down an' hold ye fer ransom!! Why, I wager the King'll pay a tidy sum for yer safe return! I liked yer little song, that is, 'til the end where ye let them poor pirates drown. Shame on ye! They was just havin' a little fun ye know. I did like the tune though, maybe I'll learn it an' change the words so's the pirates win. That'll teach ye, Missy! Why, it's gettin so's a pirate can't make a dishonest livin' these days.
  19. Gee, I guess the pidgeon didn't make it after all... and I think I've broken my tooth.
  20. Aye! I likes Pidgeon, Tastes like chicken, only bonier!
  21. Well, Jim, As we Pirates say as we sit in the life boat while our ship sinks, "Looks like we'll be sharin' close quarters for a while, mate!"
  22. Oh Well, I guess I'll have to throw it to the dogs on Ebay. These poor things are so loyal and trusting and we just turn around and sell them to complete strangers. Too bad, I'm sure it deserves better. Just look at those big sad eyes.
  23. Here it is. I'm probably dreaming with the price although it does say "Best Offer". Please let me know what you think..or if you'd like to make an offer. Usual donation if sold here. Thanks again. ps: Only 5 more to go and I'll be down to 3. 1 Wheatstone, 1 Rochelle and a pretty 20b Rosewood Lachenal I'm restoring..or attempting to.
  24. SOLD! Thanks S.S. Now if I can just find those danged contribution instructions again. I've added some pics per a request. Please note the small piece of fretwork missing on the left side. I'd forgotten about that and didn't notice it on the original pics which were taken by the person I bought it from. Sorry! I guess I should have taken it out and looked. Thanks Some of you may remember when I bought this a while back . Well, I've hardly touched it since I just can't seem to figure it out. Really a nice looking little instrument although I can't tell you how it plays since I don't know how. It didn't come with a box and it will leave the same way. I paid a little over $500 US and will entertain any offers over that with the usual contribtion to this fine site of course. Here's the description from when I bought it and It's in the same condition. Pictures below description. Please PM me if interested. Thanks. 35 BUTTON CRANE SYSTEM DUET CONCERTINA MADE BY LACHENAL FOR CRANE & SONS, LIVERPOOL Maker's Number L631 stamped into frame inside Instrument and on Bass Button End Label Treble Button End Label States:- CRANE& SONS LIVERPOOL PATENT CONCERTINA 2173 Manufactured by LACHENAL & Co, LONDON When Lachenal & Co first made instruments for Crane, the early ones were labelled as "Crane & Sons, Patent-Concertina, London & Liverpool". 25. You may be losing your boyfriend for a while each day.. It's addictive.. This is not your everyday instrument you just pick up and play. I've been doing this for 3 years plus and I still suck... but I love it, and I improve every day... in my mind. By the way, What are you wearing>>>
