  1. you know that makes me feel really young....at 22..so I've got 40 years playing ahead of me before I can keep up with the threads round here?
  2. bit like the guy in this video? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JBt_AoYjGg0 (about 1.40 mins in)
  3. I've got a recorder (they made me play it at Infants school), Keyboard (they made me play it in senior school), Bass Guitar (got told not everyone can play lead guitar...but found it soooo boring to play and the strings hurt my fingers), penny whistle (wanted something cheap to play but it brought on my asthma so I gave up). And now I have an anglo concertina...
  4. I'm starting to notice a theme here....maybe I need to buy a bodhran (don't know what one is)to hang on the wall?
  5. I keep reading in various thread people mentioning other musical instruments...so how many other than the concertina can you play and what are they? Talented lot you all are.
  6. That's what happens when you use a concertina for time travel....you cross your own timeline and end up with two of you
  7. I like your background picture! Regards, Peter. Aye Peter, it's great isn't it ~ of course, you know I took that photo from my kitchen window. By the way, I posted some E.C. YouTubes yesterday & I hope to post a few more today. Now some of you guys are probably in some of them. I just hope nobody here minds me using them this way? If so please say ~ one click & they're away! Cheers Dick I thought the picture might be! I considered using a picture from my kitchen window, but, sadly, there are no mountains, or water ...... unless you count the bird bath. Always wanted to live within sight of the mountains. Those YouTube videos; great! If you can embed them, by definition, the film makers will not mind. I have met at least three of the concertinas featured, and got to play the pretty Wheatstone (Dickinson) that Martyn has (when it belonged to it's original owner). Regards, Peter. Peter, what do you mean by ~ "If you can embed them, by definition, the film makers will not mind." Seriously, I'm afraid I'm just not very techi minded ... sorry. How do you embed them by definition? 40 years ago I only just scraped a C in O level maths! I hope it's a straightforward technique? Cheers Dick by embedding them it links straight back to the youtube video...gets more 'hits'. you embed by copying and pasting the 'embed code' that you can find on the right hand side on the video page then pasting into the code for your myspace page. I believe you have done that. --regards one of those pesky young people
  8. Sounding good. Now all you need is six Morris dancers. What about six dancers called Morris?
  9. my latest attempt yesterday in fact http://www.soundlantern.com/UpdatedSoundPa...3&Path=null
  10. As a time lady I will have to get in my TARDIS and go sort this time meddling out....
  11. Thanks for putting my video in the list.
  12. The best time to practice is when there's a big football match on...especially of next doors fave teams wins. Then they make so much racket I can play loudly and still not drown them out.
  13. Maybe a bit of housekeeping might solve that problem, and instead of a newbie forum have an 'archive' section for older threads. (I'm joined to about 10 forums and comment regularly on about 5 of them and moderate/admin 2) So I'm not what you would call a newbie to forums. lol! But I still find the search function useless.
  14. I thought it was something to do with Time Travel too when I saw the subject line. lol!
  15. This was the original intent of the Buyer's Guide, most of which is between 3 and 8 years old. While I always enjoyed working on it, we found it was a lot of work to keep up; I still tinker with it a little now and then. My impression over recent years is that a lot of new people never look at it, perhaps because of the disclaimer we have up there (go to forum for latest information!). Hmmm...a trip full circle. Ken I read it before hand but I found the guide US biased...I needed up to date uk prices. So that's why I posted on the forum. I've tried using the search function many times and have yet to get reasonable results. I think there is something seriously wrong with the way it functions. -- Rich -- Yeah that search engine is rubbish. I can never find anything becuase it gives me a million results.
  16. When you search for such a question...it comes up with a million threads and for a newbie this looks rather daunting and I suppose they may want a 'custom' answer.
  17. or maybe a FAQ for newbies might be good. with answers to questions like "I'm on a budget what concertina should I get" etc.
  18. When I recorded one of my early attempts at playing my auntie said the dog (milo) barked and jumped up and down to it. So it seems I have one fan.
  19. I apologise for my poor camerawork http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hn2qi1zFFRw I'm still getting used to all the settings. It was a great day....entertaining and educating, just what I like from a day trip. And pretty easy to get to on the train.
  20. ooh interesting theory. Of course what really happened is that they just went home to their own planet. They knew something bad was going to happen (the bees) and went back home taking the native bees with them. The Doctor mentions it when he's at the Shadow Proclamation. Wonder if the bees came back after the Doctor saved Earth though. Do you think with the right combination of buttons on a concertina you can alter time?
  21. I would advise you stay away from those Chinese imports. I don't get it? I was thinking cadbury's chocolate. On a random tangent....Just had a brief thought skip across my mind (well in a daydream..I've got that friday feeling..I'm so bored just want to go home)...has anyone ever made a 'clear' see-through concertina so you can see the internal workings? In my mind It looks cool in real life I'm sure its gonna be impossible. lol! *spots men in white coats coming to take me away*
  22. Some of you may or may not know I'm a bit of a Doctor Who fan...anyway it struck me that the concertina would be the perfect time Lord/lady instrument..just look at the TARDIS design. Hexagonal. And even the classic console was a hexagonal shape with buttons on Any thoughts on this subject?
  23. Give it a try...I thought I'd never be able to play music unless it was a CD...being rubbish at any instrument I've ever tried. But I'm doing quite well....I think.
  24. Now I finally understand what seige engines were all about. The attacking force lobbed a few concertinas into the castle , and, within days, the defending force surrendered, unable to put up with the sound! so maybe my scarlatti is a roman concertina?
