Presumably the money might be nice as well ? Reverse psychology. M'dear. If people actually have the CD in their hands, they will be obliged to send the money. After all, I'll have their addresses! Do you get a personal visit by two heavies if you don't remember to pay promptly?

One-off English seesion in Bath
LDT replied to Chris Timson's topic in General Concertina Discussion
If it was when I am gonna be in Bath on holiday I'd come along. But that won't be till October. -
Can anyone suggest any folk tune that you can dance a ballroom rumba to? Mum's trying to teach me to dance again and I can't stand her cheesy ballroom music...that sounds like it aught to be played in the blackpool tower ballroom.

Yeah its fun. Plus its made me learn tunes I wouldn't have considered before. And its nice to see all the different interpretations.

What about a stealth session instead?

http://folktunefinder.com/user/ladydetemps/blog/91/ Wrote this one at the weekend. Was trying to play what shall we do with drunken sailor from memory...my fingers got lost and this tune appeared. I've been 'learning' for what seems like forever. Nearly 3 years now...still feel like a beginner though. I sorta read music but not properly....I'm kinda midway between playing by ear and reading....I find it works for me. 1. [in the words of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy] DON'T PANIC! 2. Don't run before you can walk or you fall flat on your face. (as I discovered) 3. I found scales helped (I don't understand 'scales' but if I'm told which buttons to press and that make a scale its good enough for me) get the fingers and brain working in unison. 4. Get a handfull of tunes you ant to play stick em on your mp3 player on a continuous loop. Will drive you mental, but helps with getting the tune in your head. 5. Think of progress in terms of years not weeks and set reasonable goals. (I can go faster on concertina on some tunes but on others the melodeon beats concertina. As I'm not a speed lover, this doesn't bother me. I'd rather play slow with bounce and feeling than fast and morse code like. I've found I've speeded up a little each year.)

I've decided to call the tune 'weaving willow'. Why? You may ask. Well it goes quite up n down, in n out and I was watching "escape in time" and they were downing the willow fence weaving challenge and it suddenly dawned on me that suited the tune. Word obviously spreads fast; maybe Barry had access to the internet. You just made me spit my tea over my keyboard in laughter.

I think as a child I would have been put off by the difficulty (plus we never had money for lessons etc.) and not have the patience/concentration needed to keep at it. That's an odd coincidence...he's on the fiddle forum I'm on under the psudonym bwzuk.
-
thanks. 2 months on fiddle.... two years on concertina
-
Where did you find the bee to accompany you on his fiddle ? been not bee...didn't spot that typo. I'm guessing the lack of other comments means it really was that bad

http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=24860 Drunken sailor - rather squeeky at first but gets better as I 'relax' more Fiddle & anglo concertina Only bee learning fiddle for 2 months....so apologies...send all the cats out the room.
-
Well IMO I think maybe if on the main website there was a decision chart: e.g Do you read music Yes/No, Do you want to play Irish music yes/no....etc. which will lead you to the right type of concertina for you. Or maybe a list the Anglo concertina will suit you if..... Oh well just an idea anyway.

I was just about to post about that...subscribed to the podcast. lol!

Note: there are concertinas in there I have a photo to proove it. Recorded at Leigh folk festival 27th June 2010 - from the 5pm session in the sailing club some recordings. (was trying to be good and not look at the music, although I was playing melodeon:unsure:) I'm useless with tune names so if you know the name of a tune let me know. For me if it wasn't for the internet I never would have picked up a concertina or even known what one was. The internet has enabled me to learn an instrument...actually several and I don't think I would have even contemplated learning to play folk music if I hadn't seen all those youtube videos of players. I would have been stuck still disilusioned by 'pop music' and thinking I would always be a spectator.
-
LOL !!! Its not funny...took me all weekend to do that design.
-
I used this thing called a [whispers] melodeon.[/whispers] What is a whispers melodeon ? *in homer simpson impression* mmmmmmm...whisper melodeon.
