  1. If you did that for the English, I would want it. I know nothing of Access, so you need make no excuse for using it, I couldn't do it! I would like to know more about available software for learning music. I saw a wonderful guitar site, with a tuning function. It would play an "E" for you, and led you through tuning all the strings. I have already gone to the tunes section of this site, and downloaded Ashokan Farewell. Well beyond me, but I stretch for it. Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  2. I can't give you an opinion about fingering. I have been learning to play my English Concertina for a month now. But I admit I am very interested in any reply you receive. So far I have found no source of advice on fingering except for what's in the Tutor provided with the Jackie written by Wim Wakker of the Concertina Connection. Without quoting exactly, I can tell you that it says that it is BETTER to use two or three fingers because you can move faster. While the first finger is rising, the second is coming down. I am not up to finding out about that personally yet. Maybe next year, or the year after that. Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  3. Would a Saturday morning GMT be better than an evening? The puts me late at 8 hours behind. An early start in London would be the night befor here. Who is interested, and where do you live? We have replys from Austria and Australia, and the United States. Anywhere else? We can try to determine the least inconvenient time for those who intend to participate or listen. Russell Hedges
  4. So, when would we do this? Or is it too early to plan a time? If we did it on November 29 at 20:00 GMT that would put it at 12:00 Pacific tme (My time zone in California). Most of the posters seem to be from Europe or the U.S.A. If anyone is from Australia or someplace like that ("Like that" in a time zonish kind of way) then perhaps a later start would be better? Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  5. Today is the 12th of November. Could we schedule a session for the 28th, 29th, or 30th of November sometime? Could those interested please reply with their time zones? It would help in picking a time to see what time zones everyone who is interested live in. I am on Pacific Time, USA West Coast. Thank you, Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  6. I'll watch for that LP on the English Concertina. Searching the net for "English Concertina" brought me to a page for someone who plays sea chanties and pub songs. http://www.riggy.com/ I am buying a CD of his to hear his English Concertina. Just the beginning, really. I'll be getting more from the sources listed here at Concertina.net. Thanks! Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  7. Back on topic, would it be possible for there to be an online get together of Concertina.net people some evening? Could someone who has done this before perhaps guide the rest of us to joining or listening? I am on the West Coast of the USA, but having it on a weekend would make it possible for most of us to join in. I think. Anyone? Thanks. Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  8. Thank you. I will order the "Concertina Workshop" from the Button Box. Just the kind of thing I was hoping to find. Thanks everyone! I have had the Concertina for aweek now, and I am actually getting better at it!
  9. First, thanks to all who replied. I like the idea of a video and a CD Rom. I could pick up and put down as time permits, couldn't I? So far I am working with the Tutor book that came with the Jackie. So Morganas advice hits home, I have never seen a Concertina played and it wouldn't hurt at all to see someone who knows what he/she's doing. I will also check out the learning pages again, I had only looked there for books before. And I won't ask about the Accordion Teacher. Not yet, anyway. Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  10. I am a Vintage Ballroom dancer. For me, that covers anything from the late 1700's to the 1950's. I love the Waltz, so I want to learn to play those. But really, I like music and want to learn everything. I am not a natural, so I expect to practice a LOT to become a marginal player. So be it. If I can play a Mazurka, a Waltz, a Foxtrot, a Polka, a Schottish, a (insert name here), than I have achieved my original goal. My first goal along the way is to learn what button goes with what note on the page! Then maybe, to accompany singers. Christmas is coming. Thanks for the kind supportive words! My first question is, can an Accordion teacher help me? I don't know of any Concertina teachers in San Diego. But I have friend who thinks his Accordion teacher is the best, and that sounds promising to me. Tahnk you, Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  11. This is possible? I have a broadband connection, and I have too much delay to play on line games. Or I did last time I tried. It's time to try again. I find the idea amazing and attractive. I am no good playing, but could it be possible to listen in?
  12. Hello, I just got a concertina. I had one before, but got nowhere with it 'cause it was in need of repair. This time around I got a Jackie from Concertina Connection. So it's time to learn - everything! This board was how I found the Concertina Connection, so thank you all. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Russell Hedges "Aquarussell"
  13. Hello, I just found a transposing disc on eBay. Would that be useful? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=47079 Russell Hedges
  14. No, I hadn't seen that one. I saw this one from Concertina Connection[/url] I have never inserted a URL before, so if it didn't work the eBay number is 2566100275. It's listed as a "Buy it Now" for the regular $230, and includes in the description the text from their own web site and a few sound files.
  15. I was just visiting eBay and found that the Jackie is offered there. What a good idea! Many people who wouldn't know where to find it otherwise will see it there. I am glad to see the Concertina Connection getting the word out like that.
