  1. I believe Hohner is relying more on their name than their quality. It is the same in their other products, too; I have played harmonicas, their flagship product, for years and theirs have never been good for me. FAL name='Pgidley' date='Apr 1 2009, 12:20 AM' post='92614'] ...MAN is it ever a piece of junk! My Rochelle plays like a dream in comparison, I could barely get the notes to sound at all. And as I'm playing along on the thing, one of the hand straps flat out breaks in half. I'm amazed that Hohner would even put its name on such junk, as I have a fair respect for their accordions, at least the older ones. It had a price tag of $330, I don't think it's worth a cent of that. They truly are as bad as everyone makes them out to be. PG
  2. Some of the pictures I saw have the neck straps connected to the thumb strap screws, no extra holes in the concertina required.
  3. I just received a note from the Concertina Connection that Jackie/Jack concertinas are not able to be neck strapped because of their weight and balance. I suppose they should know because they make the Jackie/Jack, but has anyone here tried?
  4. I am surprised the concertina.info site has nothing about the Jack/Jackie Concertina.
  5. Did that sound like a whine? Well, maybe just a little. No real complaints about the free market system. You win sometimes ; you loose sometimes - I like it better when I win
  6. I was just outbid on eBay at the last moment on a nice anglo by someone who I later discovered to have been bidding on about 6 different concertinas and a guitar all at the same time. Who would want 6 concertinas and a guitar except someone trying to resell them later. Ahh, the free market system! A problem is that I don't know who it was so I could contact and make an offer.
  7. I may be interested. Please let me know what you decide. Thanks.
  8. Where do you "find" these things? I've looked all over in garage sales and pawn shops, all to no avail.
  9. Yet another problem, the low "C/G" key is slow to respond; it takes a moment of pushing or pulling before it sounds. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks,
  10. I discovered that filing (with an emory board) the front underneath edge of the leather strap, where it rubs against the hand, made it much more comfortable.
  11. How can I open a Stagi W-15-S without damaging it. I tried undoing the screws, but the ends would not budge.
  12. I contacted them asking for prices and availabiltiy, an the only response I received was a question about how I found their website. When I responsed and asked again about prices and availability I received no response. That was two weeks ago.
  13. I could be wrong, but the thumb strap makes it look like an english concertina. The "Russian" sound would be due to the key he is playing in. Russian songs are in minor keys.
  14. Curious, what was your winning bid amount?
  15. I had a similar problem with a newly purchased concertina. If discovered a bar from a button to its pad was pushing another bar forcing its button to do what you described. I fixed it by slightly bending the bar out of the way.
  16. My company is sending me to Dallas in a couple of weeks for some training, if I can I'll try to stop by. Thanks.
  17. Yes, I am new to concertinas, but for the cheaper, poor quality concertinas I have seen the same exact pictured instruments on e-bay for sometimes more than half the price of the same pictured cheap instruments at Lark in the Morning, or the Button Box. I have read here that these more expensive cheap instruments have been re-tuned, fixed, etc before sale, but my cheap box is all glued (no screws). Do they unglue them, adjustment them, then glue them back, or are they just charging more money because they are a "store"? I have looked all over town (Houston, TX) for a quality instrument to try, and all that is available are the cheap 20 button ones. Maybe I'm not looking at the right place.
  18. Please excuse inaccurate terminology, but I noticed some reeds are mounted standing up in a block type mounting which is glued, while others are mounted in what I have heard called a "reed pan". Are the "reed pan" individually mounted reeds actual concertina reeds, or is it more complicated than that? Also. I have a cheap concertina which is ok, but my "d" reed on the left bottom row usually doesn't sound without some coaxing. Is this something that can be fixed (other than buying a good concertina)?
  19. What is the difference between accordion reeds and concertina reeds, and when purchasing a concertina how can I tell the difference? Thanks.
  20. I have not found any Honer instrument to be of good quality.
