  1. Hello Frank, Along with Daniel's questions may I add my own...will you be taking orders where the customer request a different keyed instrument such as G/D or will you just build the standard C/G pitch steel reeded concertinas....?
  2. Does this concertina have a Wheastsone/Lachenal layout or a Jeffries layout? Is it tuned to C/G keys or G/D?
  3. My estimate, based on the sale of similar concertinas, would be $500.00. You can place it on C.net or ebay with a starting price of $500.00 and if people offer you more then you can accept the highest offer. The MayFair Wheatstone was a late introduction by the Wheatstone Co. in an attempt to make an affordable beginner model concertina avialable. Another concertina guru and collegue may give another appraisal. All the best to you.
  4. I would suggest that you get in contact with Paul Read or Robin Harrison....they live in the Toronto area, both are knowledgeable about English concertinas and are members of Concertina.net
  5. The concertina is tentatively sold to an Ebay bidder.
  6. I have listed a Mahogany ended Wheatstone C/G 30 button on ebay. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130734070150 Please PM me if interested. If a member of this forum buys the concertina then I will make a suitable donation to C.net c/o Paul Schwartz
  7. If you really need a date then let it be....December 10, 1974. The last recorded 40 button Wheaststone anglo made..was 59498 and yours is #59499...then assume that both were made or registered on the same date because concertinas were made in batches (groups). Approximately 81 anglo concertinas were made in the last year of operation by the Wheatstone Company...which at this time functioned under the ownership and leadership of the Boosey and Hawkes muscial company. Jan....the best person to write to may be Steve Dickinson. His email address is: concertinas@wheatstone.co.uk Steve may have some information on the approximate date of manufacture. Most of us rely on the Wheatstone Ledgers as well as on people who actually knew the last employees of the Wheatstone company. Intruments made in the 1970's were not the best examples of Wheatstsone concertinas made. The 40 button concertinas (Model 7A) received more attention and care than the 30 button (3 row) concertinas made in the same year.
  8. I will send you a PM (Personal Message)
  9. The concertina is on its way to Galway CIty, Republic of Ireland. The new owner is getting a bargain and can spend a few bucks fine tuning the instrument ...and still come out ahead.

  19. Congratulations, Neill. Forget about feeling guilty.....life is too short.....just do us all a favour and make beautiful music with your nice Dipper!
  20. The concertina is still available.
  21. Thanks Ben, it sounds excellent. By the way, how is it that the Bellows appear to be pale GREEN in the video? Are the photos on eBay closer to the actual colour? Cheers, Dick Hello Dick...the photos on ebay are more accurate. The bellows are brown and the bellows paper are a tan colour. The lighting was not that good in the video. If I had time I would have asked Wim Wakker, Greg Jowaisas or Frank Edgley to make a new set of black bellows (although the current set of bellows are brand new). This particular Linota's sounds are clearer and sharper than my S. Dickenson Wheatstone 40 button concertina (sorry, S.D.). "Green" may appeal to our friends from the Emerald Isle . St. Patrick's Day is coming....
  22. Thanks Ben, I look forward to hearing it. Cheers, Dick Hello Dick, Please see the link to ebay....there is a video clip sound sample. If I only had an excellent concertina player to do justice to the concertina....
  23. HEllo Dick....I will put a video sound sample within the next hour and a half. I have had a few Linota's over the last ten years..and this has the classic authentic Linota sound. My only regret is that the person who replace the old bellows did not place black bellows on it. Cheers, Ben
