  1. The ad has changed from when I first saw it which was for Skunk odour deterant to now odour control for pets including skunks. I am getting excited ,if I am generating adverts for my own postings I could be the new David Beckham of the concertina world. This may mean a new hairstyle which may be a bit difficult ,a tattoo of course and a full frontal in the Playgirl, but they would have to be very selective in the size of staples and the positioning of the photo. I have a little Grandaughter who cannot say Grandad but calls me Badad. Her favorite saying "Don`t be silly Badad". Al
  2. The add is now at the bottom of the page Al
  3. I have just had a great laugh who put the skunk odour adds at the top of this page? Who ever it was it has made my day Al
  4. Are you suggesting possible riot control here Helen? Do I stand in front of the riot and open my box, threaten to open my box, or as an additional deterrant threaten to play them a tune as well? Al ( Edited to probably spell deterrant wrongly)
  5. Thanks for the tip Russel I will try the apple remedy.I have never smelt a dead baby skunk, but I think most of it`s ingrediants were used in the manufacture of this perfume. I wonder what the TV advert for it`s sale would be like at Christmas can you imagine the models face as she puts it on and what would it be called ? Al Edited to say cheers Jim ,very clever.
  6. Jim I can understand your earlier posting regarding this subject and it`s link to concertinas. I gave this posting a lot of thought before submitting it.One of the things about Concertina .net is that the discussions are not political or religious two subjects which are interesting subjects to talk about, but not at all related to concertinas ,unless perhaps in respect to religious music. They are also subjects which can also get so heated that good friends can become enemies and we are all friends on this site.My concern was that it was political statement I was making, but on the other hand when we all go out playing in public we are all being submitted to an environment which could be damaging to our health. I was just going to say that this would be the last political statement,I shall make on this site, but stopping sessions in pubs(unless licenced) is just around the corner and I may have a lot to say about that subject. Al
  7. I agree with you Stuart as regards laws for this that and the other and they would not be required if people acted responsably ,but they do not.Smokers are now in the minority and smoking in a bar or a restaurant where there are non smokers is anti social ,but this is totally disregarded and only laws will make those people be sociable. Al
  8. I have never smoked, but as a musician I have breathed in a considerable amount of cigarette smoke. Some pubs I have played in, if you stood up to sing it would be difficult to see across a small room to the far side.As a non smoker I have never objected to smoking ,although I cannot stand the smell and cigarette buts in an ashtray smouldering I cannot think of many worse smells (except for the perfume in my box).People who have stopped smoking are the normal ones to complain they realize how annoying it can be, can start to smell nicotine on their clothes etc. while smokers are happy to go on smoking and puffing their smoke on us who hate it.Surely it is time to stop smoking in public places, for smokers to smoke where it does not effect other people and for us musicians to play in public without our health being in danger. Al
  9. Is that with or without Worcestershire sauce Jim? Al
  10. The perfume smell is still there Helen and although I have cleaned the box out,I can still smell it.It is the sort of perfume that if you went to a party and was talking to a person wearing it, you would move on quickly to someone else. Al
  11. Sorry Samantha side handles no problem.I should have known I have one in my loft also in bad nick. Al
  12. Thanks for your concern Dave but they were put this way up just for this photo. In addition to your comments in transit end up the fluff and particles trapped in the bellows would become dislodged and fall onto the reeds. Some of the old boxes were however made to carry the concertina end up.The original Crabb and Wheatstone boxes I have, are square shaped and the concertina lays flat. The old leather hexagonal boxes are not really suitable for the reasons suggested. Al
  13. Here is another picture of it opened up.On the above picture and this one the sides look angled but they are square,it must be the angle at which the photo`s were taken. Al
  14. On a recent discussion I promised to show you my leather Concertina box which I got at auction. With any luck here it is. Al
  15. Interesting discussion here.I am almost sure that what I have found in the past is the little brown moth lavae that eats wool and it is that part of the pad they eat.On rare occasions you find a hole in the leather but it is usually the uneven nature of the pad which causes the air loss. It would appear to me that some of you in different climate conditions which are ideal for insect breeding and we have yet to mention midges and mosquitos ,gauze on the underside of the fretting is an absolute must. One pull note and you may have trapped a hundred in your bellows, or worse still, in the reeds. Why am I scratching? Al
  16. My wife agreed with you J,just before she wound the window down. We won 3-0 Where can I get another one? Al
  17. Don`t tell anyone Chris but I had one!! I picked it up on the way home from the George on Monday. The nexy day my wife wound down the window as it was a hot day and it was gone forever.Like most of them, if we lose in about two hours from now. As to my driving "No comment". Al
  18. Thanks Chris printing this off as I am typing. Does it also apply to Lager louts who have this tattood on their foreheads? Al
  19. Are you sure this isn`t Trumpton in disguise ? (See Moths) I feel a poem coming 0n!! Al
  20. Talking of chocolate where`s Wendy`s rabbit. Al
  21. This is the great thing about this site,a question is asked about the value of a concertina and we finish with a Dutch invasion and a history lesson. Keep it up ,it`s wonderful, but at the moment do not mention football. Al
  22. Frank, when you use a heat sink how are you getting adhesion of the lead on the steel? Is it that the underside of the reed is not heating up but the top is, sufficient to obtain adhesion? Is flux required or will lead adhere to steel without it? Al
  23. I know many of you will not agree with me but if one of my Jeffries was stolen lets say 38 button ,I would expect to pay £4000 for an exact replacement.New hand built concertinas are in that region and they will not be better than Jeffries (equvelant to, but not better).I have them insured for that figure. I do agree that a thirty button Jeffries would be in the region of £3000. If the Japanese/Chinese interest increases I would not be at all suprised to see these prices soar in the next 5 - 10 years. Al
  24. Interesting Stephen,I have never seen a Ladybird inside a concertina and like Jim I have only ever found Moths, but I take your point Ladies can be a bit of a pest at times.(Lovely though). Al edited to be sexist
