richard
Hello I have just bought a lovely sounding 20 button Lachenal Anglo with rosewood ends. It is #39166. The label that is on the baffle paper and showed through the oval hole on the right side says: J. WALLIS patent Concertinas 135 Euston Road NW LONDON I would like to find out anything about this dealer. I am also curious if there is any document on the various dealers who sold Lachenals under their names. Thanks, Richard
wes williams
Joseph Wallis was established in 1848, but only operated from Euston Road from 1867 (until 1928). The firm became J Wallis & Sons in 1887. They also sold Jones made instruments, some with JW cut in the fretwork. Edit to add: "135" Euston Road seems to appear on earlier entries, with "133 & 135" appearing by 1876. I am also curious if there is any document on the various dealers who sold Lachenals under their names. I have a electronic "notebook" file containing info on many of these dealers, but it would need a considerable amount of work before it could be released publicly, although I have provided a few fellow researchers with copies, for safe keeping. Edit to add: You can find a brief history of some of the major dealers here. Edited July 16, 2004 by wes williams
