RAc
This is a fun little tune that some consider a ragtime - it's not, it's a syncopated reel (but just because a good compromise leaves everybody unhappy, I tagged this as a reeltime ;-)) Most of the time this is played as a tune, meaning the entire melody is played as a contiguous voice. When I played around with it, I found it's a classical Question-and-Answer piece, so I recorded it with a concertina and a guitar alternating between the Q and A phrases. Since it took two instruments but I only have two hands, it turned out a sound engineering exercise more than anything else. The second time through has a couple of, uhm, improvable sections, so whenever I get around to redoing it, I'll clean it up. This recording is mostly to demonstrate the alternating voices. As usual, thanks for listening! https://soundcloud.com/rac-13/woodland-revels-experimental
Wolf Molkentin
I must say I like it, Rüdiger! Has a nice feel to it, and not too many improbable moments at all. Best wishes - Wolf
John Wild
I did enjoy hearing that. This tune appears in the book Hardcore English (page 70). It is in the section labelled 48-bar common time tunes. I played this a few months ago at a local pub which has an open mic. night. There were a few points where I stumbled over a few notes, possibly through distractions in the pub atmosphere, but more likely just me!. I have an MP3 version for anyone who might want to listen (and criticise!) John Wild
Don't know if I could do it as well live, John - well done, and it has a very different yet intriguing feel - thanks for sharing! Thank you. I have been doing this for a few months. It is open to any style and any standard. everyone on the list gets 15 minutes. The best thing is that I get recorded and receive MP3 files of what I play. That in itself is educational!
