Chord 'template' For 3/2 Time Signature In Easyabc

I've been trying the patience of the readers of this forum with dumb questions for

some time. Here's another one:

EasyABC allows the manipulation of the fine detail of the way chords are played

by specifying a 'template' in the ABC script, thus:

%%MIDI gchord fcbz

where fcbz means fundamental, chord, both, rez(s)t.

For some time signatures, there is no built-in template which means that no chords

are played - for example 3/2. I have tried a couple of templates for 3/2, from the very

simple ccc to others like fcbfcb. To my tin ear, none of them are entirely satisfactory.

Can any kind person suggest a template for 3/2?

If I've understood things correctly, strictly, all of this is a function of abc2midi, not the

ABC player (EasyABC in my case), so I've looked at abc2midi documentation in the

hope of finding a 'chord crib' for 3/2 - no joy...

Thank you.

Roger

Can this actually be done? Are the bars really all the same?

Or can you specify a multi-bar sequence?

See

And look at guitar chords. It appears that the patterns can only be one bar long. It is easy to set up in EasyABC without needing the command, just the pattern

I'd suggest experimenting with things like "fcfcfc". 3/2 is like 3/4, not like 6/8. However if you are working with 3/2 hornpipes you'll find things might not fit well because they tend to use shifting accents.

Apparently yes and no - see below (Oh, you already have...):

Thank you - that's exactly the bit of documentation I found and followed...

Thank you again - that's exactly what I have been doing - nice to think that some times, at least, I'm

getting it more or less 'right'. I just wondered if there was something subtle, I was missing.

Done and dusted! Thanks again folks.

Roger

In my Paul Hardy's Session Tunebook, I mainly use the following pattern for 3/2 hornpipes, e.g. If You Will Not Have Me, You May Let Me Go.

%%MIDI beatstring fpppmpmpmppp

%%MIDI gchord czfzczfzczfz

Download the abc and search it for gchord - For some tunes I change the pattern for the different

sections - see Old Lancashire Hornpipe which switches the six sub-beats between two lots of three, and three lots of two.

Thank you very much!

I don't have to download the file - I did that months ago :) great selection of tunes!

Those beatstring/gchord combinations sound good to me.

Thanks again!

Roger.

Thanks for the thanks.

As a general aside, if you or anyone else downloaded my session tunebook more than a month ago, it's worth doing it again now,

as the 2016 edition was released on 10 September, with 569 tunes and much improved chord suggestions.
