It makes "sense" that those with two sets of buttons are set up with two pairs of keys, and which pair you play depends on the direction in which you insert your hands in the straps. But it does remind me of the "courting dulcimer" (Appalachian type, not hammered), which is set up with two opposing fretboards, so that a couple could play duets while sitting facing each other. Actually I think a regular pentagon would be easier to construct (using CAD) than an irregular one because the angles are all the same and the parts are the same shape and size for every side.
